Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ackward question, but how old were your boys when you began having them wear an underarm deodorant? ...just wondering what's an average age.

Thank you!

Ten here also. Maybe a little bit before.

I see your oldest is 7. I remember noticing an under arm smell a couple of times when Nicholas was 8.   However, it was only once in a great while. His glands were just preparing me for what was to come I guess.

My poor daughter!!! She's only 8 and already has BO. I didn't start anything like that until I was in 8th grade! (She loves the idea of wearing deoderant though. Such a grown-up lady kind of thing ya know!)

My son is eleven, and we just delivered 'use of deodorant' lessons last week. I wouldn't say his is a dire need, but we thought it would be best to have some on hand.

We've recently noticed our son's BO after football practice and he turned 11 in June. I guess he sweats a lot more during football than he does during baseball or basketball. Anyway, he definitely needs it now!

And Becky, our 8yo daughter needs deodorant also (she'll be 9 in December)...so don't feel bad. She doesn't mind it...she prefers to smell nice than to smell bad.

I taught JHS for nine years and it was my first day of school lesson every year.

I would write out D-E-O-D-O-D-R-A-N-T

Then I said that anyone who was not familiar with this word needed to ask their parents to explain it to them. And then I required them to bring it in their bags to school because after recess classes smelled baaaad.

So definitely by age 11.

My oldest boy is 9 1/2 and my oldest girl is 8. I think the deodorant lesson will be a double lesson when it happens. I was asking a friend of mine when her daughter started wearing it. She said, "Trust me, when your kid goes bad, you'll know it!"

Thanks for the info though. It really sets my mind at ease knowing that it seems to be earlier for girls and later for boys.

I think my oldest three were all 11. I have noticed 9yods getting a bit smelly- bought him some Dove deoderant, and he wouldn't put it on- looked girly to him!

This takes me back to 5th grade and our classroom "health" board. On it, our teacher had a bar of Dial soap, washcloth, toothpaste, toothbrush, AND DEODORANT! My dear friend and I were scandalized!     How funny.    What would elicit that sort of response from kids now?

God Bless,

10 for both my older daughter and son. I just wish my son would remember to use it more often.

My oldest was 9.5 when he started really needing it is 10.5 now and BOY can we tell if he forgets to put some on!!! Our other son is 7.5 and I am noticing some odor on a few occasions but rarely, he has his own sample size deodorant that he uses once in a while, but so far he doesn't really NEED it.

Ds was 8. He had a hard time with it as he hated the smells and sensations. After smelling 20 different types I finally asked him what scent he would like....blueberries was his reply!
