I am getting ready to welcome baby #5 in 5 weeks, and I am trying to think of all the things I might need (or would be just nice to have!) on hand for post-partum. Any suggestions? I was thinking of trying some of the Earth Mama-Angel Baby products. Anyone familiar with these?

In 5 weeks!!!!
Where did the time go, Tea!!!
This is so exciting.
Gee, it's been so long for me... all I can think of is to have some bottled water in the pantry.

Paper plates, diaper cream, nursing pads, Chlorox wipes- temporarily for quick bathroom clean-up, Advil-afterpains , toddler sippy cup with lid for a toddler that wants to be by Mom on the couch/bed. . . this list is probably not what you meant.
Our hospital sends home a big cup with a lid and straw. . . these are great to have for nursing mothers.
You know what else helped us this time ( My baby will be 3 weeks tomorrow), I sent dh to the store right before the baby came and gave him a list of pantry items and told him to buy 3 or 4 of each so that during the 1st month or so all we would need to get at the store were milk, produce, and bread. It has been great!
I also bought new pajamas- several pairs and it was fun to wear them all day the 1st week. Although they were a bit more snug than I expected.

Tea,
I reviewed some Earth Mama Angel Baby things here. And there are a few more favorites as well. What a sweet, sweet time. Treat yourself gently, dear.

I had just learned I was pregnant in October (right?) when Elizabeth had posted about her favorites, and now that I am about 3 weeks away, I am so excited to have found the link again to get some ideas!
I'm looking forward to trying some earth mama angel baby products, but I feel so hesitant since they're slightly expensive and being a VBAC mama (this should be my 2nd vbac though) I'd hate to have to have a c/s and then have spent the money!
Anyway, I second the new pajamas! I'd LOVE to get these , but they're out of my price range. I've been gathering things up as well. I got a few new nursing bras and camis (the others were quite worn!). My favorite nursing camis are the ones from Target because they are so affordable and comfortable, especially in the beginning, but even as the months go on. I found a pretty nursing bra at Motherhood that was beige with pink piping, I'm excited about it because I hate feeling frumpy just because I'm nursing! Nursing pads are essential- I like the Lansinoh brand.
Also, I agree with stocking up on food (though I don't have to do it this time, it's complicated). I don't know about others, but for me, right after having a baby I only want to drink water or tea and eat very healthy foods. I'm not sure why. I think I would stock up on healthy snacks. And sugar-free popsicles. lol

I just read Elizabeth's post again, could someone explain a bit more about the Raspberry Leaf? Is the amount in the Postpartum Recovery Tea from EMAB sufficient, or is there another way to "take" it?? I'm kind of confused.

Yes, im interested too in the rasberry leaf tea. I have never really thought to get anything for myself. I'm always thinking in terms of the baby but these products sound great! Im especially interested in the nipple balm.

I am having the same dilemma. I really want to get the postpartum products - but the c-section possiblility always lurks! I would like to find a local store that carries them so that my dh could pick them up once I have the baby.
Things I have for postpartum:
- new nursing nightgown
- new memory foam slippers
- Bravado nursing bras - just discovered them and think they are the best
- ice/hot gel things to ease engorgement
- lansinoh
- nursing pads
- postpartum tummy support
- Traditional Medicinals raspberry leaf tea
- Traditional Medicinals Mother's Milk tea
- good strong caffeinated British tea (hopefully I will feel like a good cuppa once the baby is born and nausea gone!)
- nursing pillow in case of C-section
- aromatherapy cosmetics (natural) to make me feel good
- calming music for baby and me
- the Danielle Bean book (on Elizabeth's recommendation) - I have had to be very self-controlled in not reading it during the last few weeks!
- caramel wafers - my postpartum treat!
Things I do to make life easier when I get home:
- chore list for everyone - so I come home to a nice tidy house!!
- I have cooked and frozen meals for the first week (just did this yesterday - hoping it would send me into labor this week before induction )
- stocked up on groceries
- I pay the bills - so have tried to pay every bill as it comes in - have a file set up so all mail gets safely kept - and nothing gets lost
- I have gifts purchased for July and August birthdays - I plan on writing cards and wrapping them today - one less thing to do
- I almost made the kids in upper bunks sleep in sleeping bags (easier to change and wash) - but dh will change bedding for me
One of the best postpartum helps - dh is taking two weeks off - what a luxury!!

Cay - Yes, time does have a way of sneaking up on us, doesn't it? I just hope the entire Summer doesn't fly by too fast - I want to savor it!
Elizabeth - Thank you so much for the link to your reviews of the products! After reading your comments, I went to the EMAB website and was able to find a retailer close to me who sells some of their products, so I will be ging there today to check out their selection!
Sarah and Andrea - I totally agree about the PJ's - got to have at least one new pair!
Marilyn - Wow! What a great list! I need to start cleaning out the freezer to make room for some casseroles.

Marilyn,
I almost forgot - I have been thinking about getting one of those PP tummy supports, too. What kind do you have and are they really supportive without making you feel constricted?
Thanks in advance!

You can take raspberry capsules and that's what I did in the hospital. I switched to tea at home. And, Earth Mama Angel Baby does have some c-section support things. I think I'd look to see what items were in both postpartum sets and concentrate on those. You can always order the others right after, or send someone to get them if you've scouted them out locally.

I love to see all your lists! Marilyn, you are super organized mom!
There was another thread about c/s supports, and another where Molly Smith had some wonderful suggestions about what to bring to the hospital.
I'd add arnica to this list, for both types of delivery. My cousin who has delivered 11 children (1 c/s) has used it for each baby and swears by it for ease of pain and recovery.
My other additive is personal. I need my mother, and she makes the first comfort food meals: French Toast for breakfast and chicken and rice for dinner.

One more thing. I'm not a huge homeopathic gal. I have two items in my cabinet I use: arnica and Phytolacca Decandra. Phytolacca I use for clogged ducts and mastitis. I start taking as soon as I have any twinges.

Do you usually have back labor? I have adored my flax-seed hot pad. It was essential after ds #3 for the back pain after labor and the after labor pains!
Betsy
P.S. Here of where you can buy one. I have also made them before.

Back labor is the only kind of labor I ever seem to have! Actually, I do get "regular" labor pains, too, but my back is usually so excruciating I don't even notice anything else.....

The best thing ever. . .well, besides the baby, of course!
How are you Marilyn?

Well, gee, everything I thought of has already been mentioned!
How about some new videos or computer games for the other kids? I hope I don't sound like a bad mommy, but it helps to have some down time with just the new babe.
Oh, just thought of something not mentioned. Homeopathic colic tablets or drops for the baby. We invariably need this in the first week or two, and dh usually ends up making a midnight run to CVS.
God bless all of you who are approaching your due dates (or have already passed! )!

Elizabeth, where did you buy Raspberry Leaf capsules? I Googled it without much success! And also, you mentioned in your post back in October using Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils in the peri bottle, did you just put a few drops in each time? Did you use it along with the iodine (that's what it is right? the brown stuff?) that the hospital gives you?

Andrea,
I would totally ditch the betadine, really, it's just not necessary. I'm not sure about Elizabeths tto/lavender oil suggestion, as I've used them that way. I just use plain cool water in my peri bottle. (a.k.a. my best friend for the first 3 days pp!) I'm curious if the tto stings??
You should be able to find RRL capsules at any health food store. You can also get it in a tincture if you'd prefer.
