Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, my oldest dd won't quite be a teen until November, but yesterday marked Day 1 of her first menstrual cycle. My emotions are all over the place. Joy to see her growing into a lovely, tenderhearted young woman, sad that her girlhood (and she so loves being a little girl in some ways) is coming to an end. I feel so overwhelmed! The biggest irony being that my cycle has not returned yet! I'm having a harder time coming to terms with this than I expected. Any advice?

This is a moment of joy, but also sadness. I have been through this with four of my girls and for each one my feelings were mixed. I use the day as a time to pray for my daughter's virginity and her future spouse if God so chooses. I will pray for you!

God has chosen the day for your daughter to become a woman. His timing is always best. Celebrate her womanhood! I always bake a cake and announce that we are celebrating "child's name" today. My #2 daughter was quite jealous that we were celebrating dd #1. She asked "What about me?" I promised her day would come and winked at dd#1. Her day has come & gone and now we tease her and she laughs when she remebers her reaction to dd#1s day! Secretly this daughter is given a neclace to commemorate this special change in life. (I really need to begin looking for dd#3, she turned 12 two days ago. I like to have it in my drawer to present to her when she comes to tell me her news.) My daughter's (two so far) have loved speaking in confidence with me about a subject that we alone share. Of course there are things that will be inconvenient. She will learn this quickly with the onset of summer upon us. Try to focus on the beauty of this gift to share in the creation of human life with our Lord.
God bless you both!

Well I baked her a cake and we had a mini-celebration that only mama, papa and her other sister had any clue what it was about. I think she loved that. All the others were told was that it was just a special day for Maddy and they would find out in their own time what it was about. Of course my second daughter is all too eager to grow up. I have to laugh and be astonished at how different these 2 daughters are.
