I love those soft-bottomed lap desks I see all the time in stores but have always balked at the prie because I would need to buy one for each child and that would add up fast. This week my three year old was struggling with this wipe-erase letter board we have, trying to hold it steady on his small lap and still write neatly. I suddenly realized I cold easily add my own bottom and instant lap desk! We hot-glued three sides of a rectangle of fabric, filled the little pouch with dry lentils, and guled down the open side. I added ribbon with the marker attached...he loved it! So the other kids immediately wanted one too...we cut some rectangles of plywood and I let them decoupage whatever they liked on the front...Quinn used Holy Cards and Gabriel pictures of animals...we added the bottoms and off they went. They were a grea addition to our nature drawig time yesterday....everyone sat with their "desk" and notebook on top! I think we'll start making these as birthday gifts! Thought I'd share the fun and "cheap" idea!

Please forgive all the typos in my messages as of late, the fatnes of my pregnant fingers combined with pregnancy brain damage has thrown my typing skills completely out of whack, especially on the laptop keys! Colleen

Thanks for the idea! My dc love lapdesks too, and as you said, they are WAY too expensive for me to buy one for each of them.
Thanks again!

Thankyou, what a great idea!
I love your new baby's name! I wanted to name a little boy "Maximilian" and call him "Max" but dh didn't think so.

Now my dc won't have to fight over the one desk we have (which we inherited!)

My 2nd son is John Kolbe...I've always loved St. Max, but I wasn't too fond of the name Maximilian. DH suggested Kolbe, and I love it! My bil said i "wimped out" by going with Kolbe, and he's right!!!

Perfect timing on suggesting this. We just looked at some the other day (and decided that bulk buying was too pricey!). I couldn't figure out how to make 'em...but with your tips I think I could manage!
