I posted directions and pictures for Jan Brett Christmas lapbooks here (there are St. Nicholas ideas in this one) and here (the Gingerbread Baby). Kim called last night and her computer went pfffft. If she doesn't get it back online soon, I'll post some more plans to go with Wild Christmas Reindeer .

I just wanted to say that Elizabeth's Jan Brett plans are so wonderful! We used them last year as an inspiration for our Christmas Notebookand we enjoyed it SO MUCH. It was what got us started into notebooking. And we have been doing it happily ever since!
Thanks a million, Elizabeth!

Theresa... we've been using them for years too ... they work so well with all ages.
I am nearly at the point where I have collected all the books instead of having to use the library

Reindeer unit
I found the Wild Christmas Reindeer unit written two years ago when expecting Brendan. (above) I will try to get the lapbook pics uploaded to my blog tomorrow.
If anyone downloaded the St Nick unit about that same time and happens to still have it as a document I would be forever grateful if you could shoot it to me.
Thanks!
Kim

This is a little bit OT, but my son wrote a letter to Jan Brett, and she "wrote" back! It was a sort of a form letter (I think she has different form letters depending on which book you write to her about), but it made his day!
Anyway, her mailing address can be found at her website.

Question about Jan Brett's site: I know I've printed stuff from her site before, but now when I print, the page comes blank. I did register on her site today (it's mentioned in small print at the bottom of some pages). Do any of you have trouble printing off any of the coloring pages or activities?

Courtney, I just printed stationary for Marianna's letters this afternoon and they printed A-OK. I'm not even registered.
Have you tried printing something else from somewhere else?

Yes, Jennifer, I had printed off Kim's unit plans and some others from Elizabeth's blog. I'll try again later and see what happens. Thanks!

Are these available as Word files somewhere? I NEED to stow these treasures away so I don't lose track of them.
Fondly,
Kathleen

Help! Can anyone figure out what I can do? I can print documents from anywhere else, but at the Jan Brett website, I print and the page comes out blank. I've tried printing from the pdf files (I can do this elsewhere) and it's still blank. Any thoughts? Even when I do print preview, I can see the image, it just won't print.

Courtney: Have you tried an alternative browser? I has some issues with her site and found that IE 'cured' what I could not do in Opera or Firefox.

We are attempting our first real lapbook using Elizabeth's gingerbread baby plans. I attempted a Thanksgiving lapbook but ran out of days before Thanksgiving. We finished about half of it and then my ds10 did not want to continue it after the holiday.
My question is...about how long should a lapbook take? Do you work on them for weeks? Days? I am new to this and we are enjoying it but I don't know how long to allow for us to get one done.

Depends on the lapbook and what your are trying to accomplish.
The gingerbread baby ones can take about a week... but you can drag it out more if you like, by spending just one day a week working on it.
I like to do it a little at a time, each day, after we have done math and Latin . Some days we dont get to it, other days we do lots on it.
Plan for a week, and figure out what works best for your family!

There is no set time and it really depends on your topic. On something as specific as a holiday or a book I would plan to finish within a week or it gets old. If you are doing one on the faith, an era of history etc then you can plan say a minit book or two per week and stretch it over the course of the study.
We are very pleased with short concentrated studies lately though since I can't commit to longer and we lose interest.
Kim

Thanks. I had figured about a week because that is what I should have given to the Thanksgiving one. (I only allowed three days, which was not enough time.)
We are having fun so far! It is very satisfying to me, kind of like scrapbooking only with an educational slant to it.
