Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are studying the 20th century.......and as Raggedy Ann was first published in the 1910's..........we are going to read the stories.

I was wondering if anybody has ever followed a rabbit trail with Raggedy Ann.........where did you go? Where did you visit?

Thanks!!

Have a blessed day!

No rabbit trails, Chari, but we LOVE the Raggedy Ann books here. Even the boys enjoy the stories. What a brainstorm to use them for the 20th century study!

When the kids were little, we were visiting my brother and his family in Illinois -- Raggedy Ann and Andy Musuem was in Arcola (heart of the Amish area in Illinois). It was really cool -- and there website has lots of info.

Last year when we read this we went off on a "doll story" unit -- equal time for my younger daughter sandwiched between two boys .

WWI and the homefront would be an interesting trail as would a rag doll making unit (a great book for this is My First Doll Book, which has great easy directions for simple dolls).

Have fun and let us know what you come up with Chari!

I'm bumping up this thread, because whoever has never read any Raggedy Ann really needs to !
The Raggedy Ann and Andy Treasury is a nice place to start. It tells the story from the beginning, how Raggedy Ann got her candy heart, etc.

I first learned about Johnny Gruelle from this forum. Prior to that I had been really turned off by the few Raggedy Ann knock-off books I had picked up at garage sales. The books do have RA in them, but they twaddle.   The real books are treasure!

The pictures are wonderful, the characters have the funnest names and the stories all have the same plot/no plot, so they are easy on a mom's brain. After a rough day, it's very soothing to read some Raggedy Ann.
My dc love the stories.

I would love to do a rabbit trail on this...

I keep trying to start my boys on Raggedy Ann and Andy. Growing up we had a few little 45 rpm story records which captivated me. My older son has never liked the pictures because something in the eyes (the little eyelashes) scared him.

I keep trying to tell him these are the original "Toy Story". I think I'll be successful soon.

My mother made us all dolls one Christmas -- 3 daughters (at the time, later it was 5), large doll to the oldest down to the smallest to the youngest. It was such a labor of love.

There is a pattern from Simplicity but the faces aren't the same as what I had.

this one is more like it, but not quite. Can't seem to find a picture. It was in the 70s.

I don't know about rabbit trail specifically with Raggedy Ann, but I was thinking about doll and toy books, that would be nice to group together:

Raggedy Ann and Andy
The Velveteen Rabbit
Doll stories by Rumer Godden (these are the ones I know are doll stories, she might have more)
::The Doll's House
::Impunity Jane (this one is perfect for boys!)
::The Fairy Doll
::The Story of Holly and Ivy
::Candy Floss
::Miss Happiness and Miss Flower
::Home is a Sailor
::Four Dolls

And how about Pinocchio?
