Hi,
I'm sure we'll be learning about CG at our house soon as my 6yods loves him. Target has some CG things in the $1.00 section.
Don't forget to visit the zoo to see some real monkeys!
God bless,
Mary

AWWWWW, that's so nice!

BTW, we'll be making Banana BreadCurious George Banana Bread as part of our study ... I love tying in cooking with a study -- kills multiple birds with one stone: teaching culinary skills, math concepts, feeding the family (usually pretty nutrionally as we try to make it all from scratch), entertaining the kids (they think it's a riot to cook with me ), as well as the general infomration that ties the recipe into the unit....

Mary,
I will have to remember this when I get back.
Annie (my Curious George lover) sends you a hug and a kiss for this treasure.

The real great piece in this unit is the biography, The Journey that Saved Curious George, which is a great read and really has some neat details (he grew up within walking distance of the zoo and that's where he fell in love with animals, especially monkeys; he and his wife owned 2 monkeys when they were first married; etc). All of these things lead to amazing rabbit trails....

This is absolutely perfect, Mary! We are in the midst of a Curious George craze. You might be able to gleam some ideas from Curious George thread. My oldest is only 4 so we have just been doing whatever George does. Paint a jungle. Ride a bicycle brunco style. Not very creative but the kids love it!

Mary, I tried to leave a comment at your blog, but I still haven't figured out how to do that as a non-Blogger. Anyway, I wanted to say we love Curious George too and I love all your ideas!

My middle son got on quite a monkey kick a while back. We pulled out all our Ranger Ricks and other magazines that profiled apes and monkeys. We were going to do a world map and color in where monkeys are found in the world. We bought up Curious George plates and cups so as to have a "monkey tea" at some point with chocolate-chip banana muffins, dried banana chip-trail mix and banana milkshakes. The plan was to watch the CG movie as a treat, but we haven't done that yet.

You have re-inspired me!

Have you watched the Curious George PBS show at all? We did once, but 4yo son got upset about the "drama" of it all.

BTW y'all -- check your grocery store -- some are carrying CG fruit snacks (which was a nice, clean non-crumbly snack to eat while listening to the stories )

We picked up an HA Rey book called Elizabite (about carnivorous plants). It is hysterical and a great favorite here. It is not about Curious George.

What a great idea!! My boys are huge "monkey George" fans as my two-year-old would say. Don't forget to check out Cecily G and the Nine Monkeys in which George and his family are first introduced. The skiing bit in that book always makes me laugh.

Oooh. We are big George fans around here.

To my daughter's delight, Costco was selling a "The Complete Adventures of Curious George" (i just realized the same book Mary references) - plus CDs of all the stories included in the book. My daughter listens to books on CD/tape during mandatory "rest", so she is one happy little girl .

DS2 is a huge "Gowge" fan, too. I think right after the pumpkins, we'll hit this. Thanks!

Mary,
I just wanted to say thanks for the unit. We just are in a CG craze (a little later than everyone else) with my middle child and this will work out great!

You are MOST welcome. We had such fun with this unit -- the kids still talk about it. It's funny, I don't think I EVER read CG until I did this unit with the kids, primarily becuase MaryM had mentioned the biography to me ... talk about rabbit trails!

Thank you, Julia, for bumping this in the "Active" list. I missed it originally, and it will make for a fun end of January!

I just wanted to mention that they have Curious George items at Target in their $1 section for any of your CG crazy littles.
When I went there they were pretty well picked over, but they still had stationary and magnetic bookmarkers, and small plush CG monkeys. It would be worth the look if you know you'll be going that way.

Also, I wanted to put Homeschoolshare's unit on

Curious George
for anyone who finds their way to this thread to kind of put it all in one place so to speak.

Did anyone see the movie? We were able to get it at the library. My dh loved the music & thought Curious George was so cute!

This Toilet Paper Roll craft would be a good one for this unit.

Way cool! My CG lover is going to go bananas for this -- pun intended .

Brenda,
We loved the CG movie here, but in honesty I think I like the PBS show even better. I love the opening song and the narrator on it just cracks my kids and I up! We try to catch it every morning. I will say I liked the music in the movie and the colors were so brilliant and beautiful. It kind of appealed to the senses.
