Artist to Artist, 23 Major Illustrators Talk to Children About Their Art is a gem I just happened upon at the library. It's a natural spine for a unit on picture book artists. Each artist contributed a short piece on their experiences (geared towards children), several examples of their work, photographs of their work spaces, and even a self-portrait. I think we will read about each artist and then read one of their picture books. It feels like a neat opportunity for my children to learn about these illustrators as real people, to be encouraged to experience their work in a new way, and maybe even to experiment a little with art themselves. Can you tell I'm looking forward to it?!
