Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Okay Ladies,

We are on a mission! I have an online friend that is in a real dilemma. I'm going to post her who thread from FB and see if we can help her in any way. Heads up to anyone in TN!

Here is her POST:

On a very different note but still related to my mom - I truly hope someone out there has some really creative suggestions for this problem!
Way back when I started homeschooling, Mom started looking for books to help me. We are both huge book lovers, and this was a way she felt she could participate in our homeschooling from 500 miles away. She found so many great books and great deals that she started collecting them with the intention of reselling them to other homeschoolers, especially ones using literature-based curriculums such as Sonlight, Five in a Row, and Charlotte Mason.

However, her collection far outgrew her ability to sell for numerous reasons, including her health issues and lack of computer savvy. She now has several thousand wonderful books that need to be moved out of here, as it's hard to even walk in a few of the rooms of their house because of all the boxes of books. She has been really reluctant to let them go, partly because she sees them and thinks of all the money they represent (money that my folks could really use!), but realistically there's no way she'll be doing any more selling, my dad and brother wouldn't be able to/want to do it, I'm too far away even if I had the time, etc.

There's no way we are going to just dump them all off at a thrift store or library sale; these are wonderful books, many brand new, many out-of-print. And I think she's finally to the point where she's willing to let at least most of them go if we could find the right situation, but that's where we hit a brick wall every time.

My ideal situation would be that someone would basically buy out her "stock" to set up their own used-book business, and then come with a trailer and boxes to pick it all up. That would be a miracle worthy of sainthood. Barring that, I'm open to other options, but it really can't be anything that would include packaging up small amounts of books and shipping them out to people.
Ready . . . GO!

Any ideas Ladies????

One idea: contact a book dealer who could come in, look the whole lot over and possibly buy them all as a lot.

I know that book dealers like to visit universities and buy their free sample books (they get tons of them) to resell. So maybe a local college could give you the name of a reputable dealer.

It's a dilemma and I feel her pain.

The way I see it is Unless the books are sorted and sold in smaller sorted groups or individually, she will have to take a cut in price. If you sell as a lot, it's an approximation of certain amount of books @ a certain price, such as each box of books contains 25 books, with a cost of $1 per book, so the price could be a lump sum by number of boxes....

I do think there are people who would be willing to buy the lot, but she has to be ready to realize that she is going to suffer a loss.

I know someone who operates a private homeschool lending library in Tennessee. If you'd like to PM me with your friend's contact information, perhaps we can find a way to connect them and see if she would be interested in purchasing some of them.

I am hoping to operate a similar library someday and wish I could come down and buy them!!

Best,
Kelly
