Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love the tradition we picked up years ago here at 4Real about wrapping up a book for each night of Advent. Each year I wrap a book for each night of Advent and put them all in a basket. Then each night one child can pick a book for us to read before we say our rosary.

I don't have the books in any order, so we read whichever book is picked.
This year I thought it would be fun to list the books as they are picked out of the basket. I will update every couple of days or so. Anyone want to join me?

Day 1: St. Francis and the Christmas Donkey (btw, what beautiful illustrations this book has!)

Day 2: The Christmas Miracle of Jonathen Toomey

Day 3: J is for Jesus, the sweetest story ever told

Day 4: The Last Straw

Day 5: A Small Miracle

I keep reading about the wrapping a book tradition and it sounds wonderful. We'll definitely have to do it next year when my one & two year olds will leave things wrapped .

This year all our books are in basket by the fire place. Each day we pick a book to read during the day and the kids almost always pick another in the evening (once they get in the spirit).

So far Week 1:

Day 1, Sunday: Merry Christmas, Strega Nona

Day 2, Monday: An Early American Christmas

Day 3, Tuesday: The Cobweb Curtain

Day 4, Wednesday: The Wild Christmas Reindeer

Day 5, Thursday: The Country Angel

Day 6, Friday: If You Take A Mouse to the Movies

Day 7, Saturday: 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (soft book with Mary Engelbreiht fabric)

My girls are reading:

dd10 The Christmas Carol by Dickens and

dd7 Christmas in Camelot (Magic Tree House) and

together (older dd to younger dd): The Christmas Doll (I watched them read the first two chapters and there were already tears ).

Thanks for posting, this will keep us on track for the rest of the season .

We're doing an "Alphabet Advent" again this year, with books marked with the theme letter. I don't wrap, but mark the books and put them in a basket. We have several for each day, but the goal is one --- all the rest is gravy.
