For some reason I have been struggling for a long time to read to my little ones. It really shouldn't be difficult, but in the busyness of our days my picture book time with my little ones is getting shuffled and lost. After the success that our encouragement thread for chapter books has wrought in my home, I thought to set myself another challenge.
Read 3 picture books a day at minimum, and because it seems to make me more accountable, to write titles down. I thought to share our picture book journey here along with any other mums struggling to read picture books daily, I'm certain I'm not alone.
Share your titles daily, alternate days, weekly, whatever rhythm supports you the most.
I'll be back at the end of today to share our weekly pile

Today we read "Are We There Yet?" (Alison Lester)
"Dr. DeSoto" (William Steig)
and a lift the flap Halloween joke book. 
We do "story time" daily midmorning. The kids have a snack while I read picture books. They each have a basket to pick from... usually seasonal books or books related to whatever we are studying. Since we are studying dental health this week, Dr. DeSoto was in the basket.

Angelo by David Macaulay (BTW this was a wonderful book to read with my 8 and 10 year old, great discussion about giving of yourself)

Great idea!! 
My kindergarteners are learning about mammals so today's book on that subject was:
Baby Whales Drink Milk by Esbensen, a read and find out science book---I love these books for my littles
Also,
The Church Mouse by Graham Oakley (I think I heard about this book on this forum
What Was I Scared of? by Dr. Seuss....I found this at Barnes and Noble this past week....I had never even heard of it before. It has been a big hit, especially with Halloween approaching, and it glows in the dark which was an extra bonus.

Was it the one by Janet Stevens or the original? We have another with a big ugly goblin that we love far more. It was my brother's when we were children. I have siblings fighting over possession for that book so have managed to find copies to keep all happy.

Fun idea! Like most people with just littles (my oldest are preschoolers), we do a lot of picture book reading daily, but since the newest came along six months ago, we haven't been at it as much as we used to. I'm looking forward to getting some new suggestions here!

We have the one by Janet Stevens....but I just requested the older version from the library...
Gotta love this posting our picture books idea!!

The Empty Pot
Liang and the Magic Paintbrush both by Demi
BTW we were able to get a reading Rainbow episode with Liang and the Magic Paintbrush that is excellent for info about China and Chinese writing.

I added the Abuelita books, Mary. I missed that thread. Do we have a thread for family loss in general? That would be good to have.
We read Applesauce Season, too, after it was recommended. Just wonderful! At the same time we checked out Apple Picking Time by Michele B. Slawson. It's about the Apple Pickers who travel from orchard to orchard to pick the ripe apples. Lovely story.

Some of the books my youngest enjoyed yesterday:
Vera in the Washtub by Marjolein Bastin (She is one of my favorite naturalists and her Vera the Mouse series is a true delight.)
Richard Scarry's Chimpmunk's ABC
Sleepytime for Baby Mouse by Margaret Hopkins (This was one of my favorite board books as a toddler and now it is one of my daughter's favorites.)
Pig William by Arlene Dubanevich (If you have not met Pig William yet you must. He is such a lovable character. Children are drawn to the happy, tropical colors and comic book style.)

Dh read two today; I read from a chapter book by Father Brennan "Father Brennan Tells A Ghost Story":
The Little Fireman by Margaret Wise Brown, pictures by Esphyr Slobodkina
The Fathers Are Coming Home also by Margaret Wise Brown, pictures by Stephen Savage.
The above was never published before. It came out this year as the celebration of Margaret Wise Brown's 100th birthday.

One of our very favorites! Our library system only owns one copy, so we can only have it out once in a while. I looked into getting our own copy, but...ouch! I kepp hoping to stumble upon it one day at a used book sale.
