This is the true story of Stormy Kromer, a railroad man who needed a hat that would stay on his head. His wife steps in and creates the engineer's hat as we know it today.

I never knew there was a story behind the hat, and my kids really enjoyed this one. There was only one scene that put me off a little.... Stormy complains all the time about his hat, then tells his wife not to worry her pretty little head about it. Then finally the wife gets mad and stands up to him, telling him she is as smart as he is, etc. She definitely looks angry in the picture, which I'm not sure fits in with the easy going theme of the book overall. But it is just one picture in a very enjoyable story. And I would have been mad, too, at that point
