Why didn't anyone warn me????
I FINALLY checked out this book over the weekend. I read it on the way to a family gathering and arrived with raccoon eyes and mascara streaks down my cheeks!! This book is really a treasure!

I just ordered the dvd for my children for Christmas. This book just had me in buckets - also the Frankie one.

I read this to my children last year during Advent. I felt the same way! It came so highly recommended, with good reason, but geesh , I wish I had been warned. What a tearjerker!
And it figures I didn't preread it, so I was in tears, along with my dd12 as I read it aloud to her and her siblings. My younger 2 didn't quite "get it", though, and didn't understand why we were crying.
It's one of my all time favorites now.

Jonathan Toomey is also available on DVD. The Hearth and Home Coop has it right now on the Christmas DVD open buy. But the buy closes next Monday 1 December. It's on for $10.25, retails for $13. There are TONS of other videos for Christmas available, too.
Blessings,

Last year we bought a set on clearance with the book and the book on CD read by James Earl Jones. We didn't have a working CD player at the time but do now. Has anyone listened to the Jones reading of the book? How is it? Am I going to cry any harder when I hear his rich voice?

Both books bring on my tears every time. Thanks for reminding me to get them out! :-)

Sarah,
We're getting it through the coop for our family to watch together. I'm looking forward to it!

Oh, Lisa, I love that book, too!
My mom bought it for my oldest girl a few years ago...it came w/ a CD of the book being read aloud by James Earl Jones--fantastic!!!
I'm glad we have it on CD b/c I always get choked up at the end just listening to it!
It's a good one for me to listen to when I'm feeling like "Mrs. Gloomy" Helps me to re-focus on what is REALLY important.
Dawn
