Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone done a unit study of Anne of Green Gables? I've got a few ideas, but would like to hear what others have done on the subject.

Thanks!

Grace,

This isn't any info about a unit study but we listened to Anne of Green Gables on CD read by Shelly Frasier....she did a FABULOUS job.

I mention it just in case it helps you....

A quick google search pulled up this

Have fun!

Just thought I'd post about a book I read recently from our library
Anne of Green Gables Treasury

It has a lot of background info on the author and also things of PEI, recipes, customs, etc. that might be helpful to someone planning a study.

Lucy Maud Montgomery: The Author of Anne of Green Gables by Alexandra Wallner is a lovely picture book to go along with a rabbit trail. It was fun to find this bio and compare her life to the book and see some similarities.

Where the Brook and River Meet is an excellent unit study. I bought it last year with the intention of using it for part of my 10th grader's studies, but while it had depth I felt that it was too low a level for that age. My dd who will be in 8th grade will be using it next year instead. If you are interested in this particular unit let me know and I'll share my impressions for that age. I see you have a 13 yo too.

I looked at Where the Brook and River Meet, and it looks really good, but is a little pricey for us for one unit. We will probably have to come up with our own unit study. My 13 yr old dd is the one who suggested we do a study on the series, after I started reading it to her and her little brother. I've loved the Anne books for years and am excited about sharing them with my kiddos.

I sure appreciate all the links and ideas. Please feel free to add more! I'll let everyone know what we come up with.

Grace,

Here's a beautiful book (a bit pricey) but definitely worth the cost ... The Lucy Maud Montgomery Album has lots of great info about LMM, PEI, and Anne ... check your library -- they might have it.

We love Anne around here and the DVDs, Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel are great for following the books pretty closely. Road to Avonlea wasn't close to the books, altho it gives you a good feel for the town and other characters.

It is expensive if you were looking for just a short unit. If you want a (months) long unit it's well worth the price. Are you thinking a complete unit study or just a thematic unit of some sort? How long were you planning on spending studying the book? I'll think about some resources after I read your reply.

In all honesty, I'm not really sure yet, about how in depth we will go with this. We recently started reading the book, and my dd remarked that she would like to do a unit study on it. She can be pretty unmotivated, so if she wants to do a unit study, I'm all for it. Also, I've loved the Anne of Green Gables series for a long time, and we own all the books in the series. I'm wary of a long-term unit study over months, because my kids tend to lose interest before it is finished, and I don't want to get into the habit of starting things we don't finish (a weakness of mine ). On the other hand, if we go on and include the other books in the series, it might take a few months. I sound pretty
confused, huh? I guess that's why I'm asking for advice...
