Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was looking for books to wean my son away from the Hardy Boys when my mom purchased "Raiders from the Sea: Viking Quest series". They are put out by Moodly Publishers and are written by Lois Walfrid Johnson. They are Christian and I haven't came across anything Anti-Catholic. Zane says they are the best books he has ever read.

My son was instantly drawn to a story about Vikings. I believe there are 5 books in the series. Basically a Viking teen boy commands a slave raid on Ireland which includes a monastery. Bree, a Christian girl is among those captured and the books tell her story.

Why I liked these books:
+ No graphic bloodshed/battle scenes.
+ It presents strong family relationships. Great sibling devotion. Strong mothers and fathers.
+ historical fiction
+ great Christian examples of virtue
+ No romance. There is a marriage expected at the end but it is very well done.
+ Storyline good for boys and girls as both sexes figure prominently.

I would love to hear others thoughts on these books.

I havent read this series but have read a childrens/ya mystery series by her - Northwoods Adventures - i think.

it was about a blended irish/swedish family after death of previous parents in the turn of the century

There were of course references to protestant pastors and what not but I never picked up anything anti-Catholic.

I agree with what you said- strong Parents. much of this series is about learning to live with/ love /trust siblings .

I liked her writing style and thought her plots were interesting. Its been a while though so I could be forgeting.

Ill have to look into the viking one. Sorry i didnt have any input on it.

here is her personal website,
