Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I saw a comic once that on the other side of the dryer is Narnia and that's where all the lost socks go. There was a Narnia character running off with a sock.

Hi Ladies,

I just thought I'd mention, for the sake of it, that last month with our local hs group, we had relay races/field day type event....

All of the relay races were literature related...

we had a LOTR relay race
an Anne of Green Gables Relay race
Pagoo relay race
and finally a Chronicles of Narnia relay race...

For this race, the little kids had to partner up with the big kids. The big kids knelt on all fours like Aslan and the little kids (one to a person)sat on their backs....(guess who thought of this race)...

Anyway, I just mention it because it's Narnia related...

God Bless,

Maria, I love it! There is nothing better than finding fun extensions of great books. What a blast the kids must have had.

THANKS!!

This looks like fun -- we'll be curling up with LTWTW every day during October and doing the lesson plan. Looks like it will be good for my littles and 14 yod, too!

The Palm Beach Post is running an online poll about whether school children should be encouraged to read the Chronicles of Narnia in public school. Go to Poll.

Isn't it sad that the Post doesn't mention that this book is a major classic and should be read regardless of a contest!

The books are criticized for their "overtly Christian message," which reminds me of something very funny a Jewish friend of my husband's told us. He told us that he loved the stories when he was a kid and didn't find out that they were "Christian" until he was all grown up.
I have also heard that Lewis himself objected to Narnia being presented as allegorically Christian. He really wanted his young readers to come to this understanding themselves.
I admit that my first time around reading them (around 8?) no one had told me that Aslan was Christ etc. Then I reread them with that in mind and it added a whole deeper meaning. But I agree that they are classics and should be read by all regardless of their religion. It didn't "corrupt" our Jewish friend when he read them It's amazing what some groups don't even want children exposed to. What are they afraid of ?!?!?!

That's funny, Noreen, 'cause my best "Narnia" friend in 2nd grade was Jewish, and we would spend hours reading and talking about the books. When I began to make the connections in my mind, I never told anyone for fear it was not appropriate to imagine it as Christian. she and I never really suspected in our innocent childhoods!
