First off I'll like to say how inspirational it is to read about living literature. Prior to 6 months ago, I've never heard about such a thing as interesting books... too busy during my school years reading textbooks or required reading. I sometimes still read as if I was taking a test on "reading comprehension" - speed reading until you see the "key word" that correlates to the question.  I actually tested well in this category. 
So as my son and I slowly continue to explore picture books, I wonder what happens when my second child joins us. Two read-alouds for two different listening level like Jim Trelease suggests? Jump from one book to another as they correlate to different subjects as suggested by a CM schedule. One read-aloud for all? How does your family do it?
Oh, and where do you get your suggestions for read alouds.. other than here of course

Currently I am reading:
Secret Garden on Mondays
paddle to the sea Tuesdays
treasure Island wednesdays
a mixture on Thursdays and fridays of the picture books we have.
DS (5.5) loves treasure island and it was hilarious watching his run around yelling "yo ho ho and a bottle of rum".
As for DD (15 months)... well I'm reading Winnie the Pooh to her at bedtime (she asks for it) and various picture books during the days.
I like to read them both poetry upon occasion...

We always have an independent bedtime read aloud going with Daddy. Most of our other chapter book read alouds (or books on tape) tie-in to our current unit. We all work on the same unit together, so we don't have to worry about being in two different time periods at once or anything like that. We do have random picture books from the library that the boys read independently (or to my 3yo) at quiet time. These are books that have caught my eye at my last library visit and are not related to our unit. I don't worry much about comprehension level with read alouds. Our evening reads for the last several months have been from the Swallows and Amazons series. While most of this goes over the little's heads, they still listen to Daddy and the 3yo (almost 4) understands parts of the story.

We just do random picture books all day long. My ds has been really loving to start the day with me reading to him at breakfast. It usually lasts about 40 minutes. At bedtime we have to limit the number of books b/c it can get way past his bedtime by the time he decides we should stop!!!
In the car we listen to books on tape (chapter). We are usually in the midst of a Magic Tree House book at bedtime too. Marybeth

Breakfast: Poems Old and New, Story of the World II, just finished up Windeatt's St. Benedict Hero of the Hills.
Lunch: just finished Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH and started Scripture Sleuth
Dinner: Lewis's The Silver Chair
Picture books as requested (we read several per day) and other books as requested (my 7yo is into snakes right now and found a great living book on the topic: Snake Secrets by Joan Roever, we read a couple of chapters per week).

We do different books according to a CM-style schedule, then also have two read-alouds going, one for each child. Often they listen to each other's books, but not always - some of the books I read to my 10yo go over the head of my 6yo.

For History, we are reading "The Song of Roland" and just completed Beowulf translated by Seamus Heaney.
For fun, we are reading "Finn Family Moomintroll" by Tove Janson (borrowed from MacBeth--thanks!).
The mention of a ferocious "ant lion" in Moomintroll led us to the section on real ant lions in "Creepy Crawlies and the Scientific Method" by Sally Kneidel, not to mention many plans to capture and keep a few specimens of our own.
Allie and Mary are taking turns reading stories from the "Lilac Fairy Book" to the younger children.
With the little ones, I've been reading "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey, "Curious George" by H.A. Rey, and "And Now We are Six" by A.A. Milne.
For religion, I've been sharing excerpts from "Fatima in Lucia's Own Words."

We just finished Saint Thomas Aquinas The Story of the Dumb Ox (Windeatt). The children liked that it was written in the first person, like a diary. We also just finished The Treasure of Besseldorf Hill (Naylor), same author as the Shiloh series, but I didn't love it. The children liked it, but I'm glad it's over. Jeanne and I just finished Old-Fashioned Girl and started Little Women. Wow--has anyone read Little Women aloud yet? I think it's going to take the rest of my natural life! 47 chapters! I think we'll start St. Anthony and the Christ Child as our next family read aloud. I'm not good at keeping too many books going at once with the children--usually one family read aloud and one with Jeanne is all I can handle.
Now, if you want to talk about "mom" books, my nightstand is overflowing--lots of books started, not one finished! I try to rotate through--I wish I could just finish one straight through!
