Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone seen this new picture book?

Lucy Maud Montgomery: The Author of Anne of Green Gables by Alexandra Wallner

From Amazon
From Booklist
In this picture-book biography, the author-illustrator of Grandma Moses (2004) and Abigail Adams (2001) chronicles the life of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the writer best known for Anne of Green Gables and its sequels. The straightforward text traces Montgomery's life, including her childhood with her grandparents on Prince Edward Island, her education, her career as a writer, her years as a minister's wife, and the honors that came to her as the writer of the Anne series. Lists of Montgomery's books, source notes for quotes, and a bibliography are appended. Wallner's clean, spare paintings capture the writer's life and times in scenes created with a light palette and an innocent, folk-art look. A good introduction to the life of a Canadian writer who is beloved around the world. Carolyn Phelan

Yes, I've seen it. It is lovely. This has been on my mental list of things to post on 4 Real for weeks, but I didn't get around to it.

The illustrations are really engaging and vibrant (like the review above says kind of folksy feel). They gave a good feel for the period. The text is a pretty straight forward story of her life, interspersed with some quotes from her found in various biographies (referenced in the back). In general I love picture book biographies (especially like this one) because you get a lot of basic info on a person in an engaging way. It's not as complete as a regular biography would be but that is why I prefer it as a starting point.

We have just read the first Anne of Green Gables book this year so it was fun to find this bio and compare her life to the book and see some similarities.

Thanks for resurrecting this -- I just checked and my library has it (and it's available) so I'll pick it up tomorrow (our library is closed on Fridays! ).
