I went to the Catholic Shop to try and purchase this - they say it is out of print. Does anyone know if it is available from anywhere else?

I just checked Arnold Ytreeide's website and it looks like he's looking for a new publisher. In the meantime, the prices at Half.com are crazy, but there is one on Ebay

A few weeks ago I ordered my copy from Amazon's used book sellers. I'm not sure how many are available, but I found it easily for a good price.

Guess everyone is buying now for Advent. Wow, those prices! Is this book really that good? What makes this so special?

I bought it because I was trying to stock up on the books from Elizabeth's Advent reading list. (I actually had a copy years ago...I got it free with an order from Timberdoodle and figured it wasn't worth keeping...uninformed decisions made in haste!  ) But we have it again and we've never read it. Does anyone want to offer a review?

It is very exciting, so my boys really loved it. But you DEFINITELY need to pre-read each section (I did this the morning of). I remember editing the Sunday sections (1 in particular) and sometimes skipping the doctrinal commentary altogether. I would say that overall it is useful and I do recommend it often, but read with your antenna up.

We have read this twice, alternating with Tabitha's Travels and Bartholemew.
We really enjoy it. It is an exciting story (they all are), but what I like the best is that it makes the kids excited about evening prayer time during Advent. The story itself doesn't need any editing that I can recall and I could just pass over anything in the commentary that I wasn't thrilled with.
There was I time I had a stack of these to sell, I will have to check to see if we have any left. Maybe I can auction it off to the highest bidder? 
Honestly, it is a good book, but if the prices are really high, I would wait until he finds a publisher which I am sure he will. The original retail price was about $14.00.

My children highschool age down loved them. We just have the first two, I really would like to get the Tabitha but can't afford the $50.00. I always read the story but never did the commentary at the end. We would just have our own discussion. My kids could not wait till the next nights reading they would beg me to read more.It is a story of high adventure so some with younger children might want to read thru it first and make sure that their children would enjoy it or not.
I would be happy to loan out my Jotham's Journey I would offer Bartholmew but a priest friend has it at the moment.

Well you could always try Kooronghere in Australia for $21Aus. I wonder whether postage would make it too expensive?

We LOVED, loved, LOVED these books! We read them for three years consecutively for our Advent devotion. It brings you to the manger in so many ways, and for us, it truly brought Christmas to life! These are three books we'll never lend out, never sell, nor every give away. My kids all want them to read to their kids some day.

I just posted this on the Tabitha's Travels post, but I found Bartholomew's Passage on Candian Amazon. I believe it's amazon.ca.com. I only paid about $22 which is great considering some of the used prices around $80!

Jenn, these books are wonderful because they are so engaging. They are very much like historical fictions (living books).
As you read the story you feel yourself transformed back in the times of the Romans under persecution and it is so much fun to go through all the adventures with the different characters. The kids build friendships with these characters and each night look forward to what is going to happen next.
I have not found anything 'anti-catholic' or doctrinally incorrect so far. Unfortunately we only have the first two books of the trilogy and Tabitha's Travels is no where to be found  . I was hoping that someone might find a copy on a local bookstore shelf that I could buy from them, but alas this does not seem to be the case. We will be borrowing a copy this year but look forward when the author finds a publisher.
