A homeschooling mum in Australia recently pointed out the following website- with free, downloadable literature guides for lots of classic books - I have had a look and downloaded all the ones I wanted, they look very good!
Here are some that I liked: One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Beowulf, Great Expectations, Pride & Prejudice, The Red Badge of Courage, I, Juan de Pareja and much, much more.
I did a quick search of the boards with the name 'glencoe' which is the name of the site, just to make sure that I was not mentioning something that had already been discussed and it was mentioned once by Mary (MaryM) in this posting when she was assisting someone wanting to analyse a particular piece of poetry, I haven't explored the whole site but may have other 'gems' worth taking a look at.

Thank you, Anne. We're looking for free guides to use this year, as we're on a tight budget for homeschooling this year. Thanks so much!

Wow! The other day at the library I was waiting on the kids reading program to finish and as I am rereading Pride and Prejudice for the umpteenth time when I passed the Cliffnotes version I picked it up and sat down to browse. Wow again! Mom would never, ever, even let us touch one of these when I was homeschooled and even now years later I literally hadn't touched one! What a mistake! It was so full of good stuff, as a reading guide, I was amazed. (reading it only, as a cheater's edition is of course) Just in the 15 minutes of browsing through it I learned so much about a book I am super familiar with that I never picked up on or wouldn't take the time to figure out. If they are all as good as that one I looked at I will plan on using them for certain. Way easier than randomly looking for good guides and projects online.

I agree!
I think you could make a very decent high school lit course (or two) out of good books and Cliffnotes (or Sparknotes).

Thank you all for these posts. I loved the guides on the first site. I have never seen anything like this. I am sure they will come in handy as I am looking to start a Literature program with my middle schooler. I also liked loking at the Cliff Notes. When I was in school hey were thought to be the easy way out, but I can see how they could be used to help as a guide to a book. I learned alot from you all today.
