My 13 yo (two months away from 14! yikes!) need some quality books. He is picky! He will stop reading anything that seems a little preachy to him or just not enough pop culture to him. He checked out a book from the library that I'm appalled by. I need to refocus his interest and get better books in his hands. He likes adventure, survival, and violence (I don't mind good vs evil with good always winning as long as the details aren't gory). Any recommendations? If this has been covered recently, please link to the post. My search of teenage boy didn't bring up much.

John Christopher's Tripods trilogy (plus prequel) is excellent. (Sci-fi, but very suitable for younger teens.)

My son recently enjoyed reading A Soldier Surrenders by Susan Peek and The Shadow of His Wings by Fr. Gereon Goldmann. He told me that A Soldier Surrenders is the best saint book that he has ever read and recommended that I read it.
