Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies,

I would like my daughter age 12 almost 13 to read all of the Newbery Winners, maybe even some runners up. I have read most of them since the 1950's but not before then.

Have any of you had your children read the winners and stumbled across a book you wish you had not given to your child?

I want to start with the older books and move up but was wondering your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

Oh and here is the list in case you want a quick look over of which books I'm talking about.

Looking only at winners (some of which I have not read), I would pre-read the following before giving them to a 12-year-old:

Julie of the Wolves

Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry (great book but I found it extremely disturbing)

The Midwife's Apprentice

The Giver (this book is commonly assigned in schools and many of my daughter's friends found it disturbing, so it's worth a pre-read)

Yes, the Giver is disturbing. Not our worldview that I remember. Pre-read or find some reviews.
