Hi everyone,
I have a few ideas about dd litersture reads.
She is well read.
Each term I like to challenge her with a Classic Literature book that she needs to write a report on.
Could anyone help with suggestions.
She reads Jane Austen for fun.
I was considering the Scarlet pimpernel. Oliver Twist, Screwtape Letters.
Thank you all in advance,
Leanne

What about Jane Eyre? I remember reading it at that age. I also think all teens should read the Screwtape Letters at some point.

I gave that one to my son to read (he just turned 15). He hated it! He thought the language was awful and there were waaaaaaaaaay too many feelings in the book. Maybe a boy/girl thing.

I agree that everyone should read Screwtape Letters and Scarlet Pimpernel is wonderful. Man in the Iron Mask is on my 'to read' list. What about The Count of Monte Cristo? I didn't read it at 15 but I don't think that there is anything objectionable.

You have all affirmed me that I was on the right path in my search for literature books .
I have not thought of the Man in the Iron Mask though.

Another vote for Jane Eyre, although it is a depressing book to read.
Wuthering Heights, perhaps?
My son read Belloc's The Path to Rome at that age and really enjoyed it. It's nonfiction, but definitely interesting.
Other ideas:
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
any collection of Edgar Allan Poe short stories (or just his detective stories and poetry, if she doesn't like scary tales)
"Lepanto" (epic poem about the famous battle, by G. K. Chesterton)
The Three Musketeers (boys love this, but I did, too, as a teen)
Edited to add, after consultation with DD:
Fahrenheit 451
1984 (also depressing)

Thank you everyone for your suggestions,
DD just about to turn 15, is loving the scarlet pimpernel.
We have a great reading list this year...
I am looking at Screwtape Letters for next term.
Jane Eyre next.
Iam looking into several of your other suggestions.
Thank you again for inspiring me.

It's really hard for me to say which books to get. It's easier to say which not to get. So says a woman who reads everything.
This site has a pretty good list.. About 3-5 I would not recommend, but otherwise it's got some good ones in there and a nice mix of different things.

I loved Jane Eyre when I was in middle school. I hated Wuthering Heights. (I call it the Twilight of its day. LOL)
I loved Animal Farm, anything Dickens, and I liked Natthanial Hawthorne. Some get a kick out of the exactness of precision that Edgar Allan Poe uses and his short stories are often a nice change of pace.

Just an update.
DD loved The scarlett Pimpernel..It started a rabbit trail for her about that era of history.
She is reading Les Miserable at present and thoroughly enjoying it..
I just love that she is enjoying, or at least giving every book a chance..
She reads such a diverse range of books, having just completed Van trapp family singers, and Ann Frank..
As you can see I am so proud of DD.
