OK - I have asked before - but really my 14 year old dd goes through books fast! Give me places/ lists I can go to get ideas! She has read so, so much - and it is hard to find. On her iPad she has ibooks and nook - but it is so hard to search for something good yet appropriate. She is into more adventure, historical fiction and mysteries. HELP!

My 14 year old son's list so far this year (minus those he didn't care for):
The Ranger's Apprentice books (he really loved these) by John Flanagan
The Flavia deLuce mystery series by Alan Bradley
Atherton series by Patrick Carmen (an awesome explanation of why we fast in book 2)
Tom Sawyer
Anne of Green Gables
anything Rosemary Sutcliff or Elizabeth George Speare for historical fiction

Michelle, the Alan Bradley books look like something she will like! I also recommended to her yesterday Elizabeth George Speare. I will Have her look into Rosemary Sutcliff. She has read all the Ranger's Apprentice books - so obviously really loved them too!)

Rosemary Sutcliff -- from what I remember reading on a thread somewhere, some of the titles are less age appropriate than others. I'll see if I can find the info. Can't remember what age children were discussed at the time either.

If she likes science fiction, John Christopher's Tripods trilogy (begins with The White Mountains) and the prequel, When the Tripods Came is compelling and age-appropriate.

but neither was what I remembered. I was remembering an old conversation from the Catholic Classical Ed yahoo group. 'Song for a Dark Queen' was mentioned there (and in the threads above) as being for older kids. At CCE several people also said that Sutcliff's newer books aren't as recommended (and Bethlehem Books didn't recommend them at the time). I personally haven't read any Sutcliff and don't know what "older kids" would mean.

I like the Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter series and would find it appropriate for 14. Not sure about other books by the same author, though.
