Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a coupon for 70% off at Barnes and Noble. It expires soon. I dont have anything on my wish list right now, but I think I should take the opportunity for something expensive like maybe a child's dictionary?? We have good Bible, History encyclopedia, atlas, books of poetry and classic stories. My dc are 5 and 7. What would you buy?

maybe a dvd set that's "schoolish".. like there's one I think would be really interesting on "Creatures that Defy Evolution".. I think it's around $60 so it would be much more affordable with a coupon like that.

How about a nice, big art book with lots of large color photos of great art?

I've heard lots of good things (here) about the In Conversation with God books and this set would be a great place to use a 70% off coupon

In Conversation with God would be a great buy! But I had in mind something more family friendly. I love the "schoolish" idea but I dont think I can get the dvd set. I think the coupon is good only on books. I appreciate the input!!

Do you have the Little House set?

How about Chronicles of Narnia?

The Beatrix Potter set of (small) books is quite expensive, but that would be a wonderful way to use the 70% off coupon.

I'd probably stroll through the children's books and choose the prettiest hardcover classics I could find and that fit within a pre-determined spending limit.

Well if you don't have a lot of books then I'd probably head on over to all the read aloud threads we have here, and make some serious lists to walk around with as you have that 70% off coupon in hand!!!

and here's the thread about them. It looks like your oldest would just be about ready for them.

So far, i think the Tin Tin books win! Jen, I don’t own a huge amount of books, but we do read A LOT. We utilize the library extensively! I guess I am not looking for single book recommendations as much as I am major purchase recommendations. Too bad I cant find a mixed boxed set of some of those harder to find classics!    I do appreciate your input!! thx for trying!

This was my first thought. I borrow mine from the library and it would be nice to have them all.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but the complete series is available as a watch instantly on Netflix.

Barnes and Nobles price on the 9 book Little house set is $36- 41% off list price. Your coupon would make it unbelievably low ; )

I cant believe myself! I am still hemming and hawing over what to buy with my coupon! I really wanted something to share with my children in the next few years. Something that would be fun, meaningful and fruitful for them. And of course, I wanted to get a big bang for my buck! For instance I am considering /The Classics Collection The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, and Jane Austen: Seven Novels. With 70% off it is a huge savings!!! But is it my greed that I am considering it? It doesn’t really meet my intended goal in using the coupon. Soooo back to my goal - there just doesn’t seem to be much bang in children department other than the few boxed sets I already own. I did see Draw-Write-Now-Boxed-Set/ but I wonder if it is already a bit young for my 5 and 7? I do still like the /Tintin-Boxed-Set-of-8/ even though it just doesn’t seem as wonderful and stirring as other classics.
