Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anybody share a review of the books and the movie? My 10-yr-old son saw a preview of the movie and wants to see it, but we always read the book first before seeing movies. I am wondering if anybody has read the books yet and/or seen the movie?

Thanks!

There wasn't really anything inappropriate about the movie, but it lost a lot from the book. My children all liked the books better. I really missed the importantance of relationships from the book in the movie. It was visually stunning though.....and after taking away the strong family bonds/friendship bonds, they concentrated a lot on fight scenes.

thanks for this, saigemom. I hadn't posted because I haven't read the book but was curious, too. in fact, right after seeing the movie (which, may I second, was indeed visually stunning) I checked here, but nobody had posted. so thanks, glinNC! now I'll go track down the book ... better late than never!

My dd has enjoyed the books. I asked her what she thougt and this is her review of the books: "they are very scientific in the sense that you learn alot about owls and their life cycles and habitats; then combine lots of legend and action to get great tales and storylines".

I honestly would never have thought of the "scientific" part of the stories, but I guess this is where our Nature Study really intriques that aspect of the books. I remember she checked out several books about owls right around the time she was reading this series.

As for the movie, she enjoyed the books so much that she is hesitant to watch just in case its not as good. We're waiting to rent the movie.

I looked this up before when my ds got one of these books for a present and found these posts. I haven't read the book yet and haven't let him read it yet.
