I'm making a list of all the "family" series that are fun to read... I am top heavy on families that feature girls, although my ds enjoys them just as much as my dd.

So far I have:

Little House series (including the Caroline years, the Rose years, etc)

Rebecca Caudill's Happy LIttle Family Series

All of a Kind family series

Betsy-Tacy series

Anne of Avonlea series

Five Little Peppers and How They Grew (and all the sequels)

Little Women Series

American Girl series


What am I leaving out?

Sheesh- I forgot to add that the goal of my list is to find audio sources for these if my library does not have them. My ds is a huge auditory learner and loves books on tape. There are many I would like to have, but they get expensive if you have to pay for them.

I'm thinking birthday and Christmas when people ask what to buy for him.
I know he would really enjoy having his own audio library.

Melinda, The Mitchell's are one of the best family series, we absolutely love them

The Mitchell's Five for Victory (set in WWII)
Canadian Summer (hysterical in parts)
Friendly Gables (Violet says this if good for older listeners, but still outstanding)

Hth, don't know if these are on audio yet??

The Melendy family (The Saturdays, Then There Was Five, Four Story Mistake, Spiderweb for Two by Elizabeth Enright ) I'm not sure if you can get them on audio, though.

My boys have loved The Cottage at Bantry Bay series.

We just finished all the Mitchell's. And I cried at the beginning of Canadian Summer when it stated that Uncle Jim didn't come back from the war. I guess I get quite involved in the read alouds, too!

I just picked up The Moffats by Eleanor Estes...it's first in a trilogy illustrated by Louis Slobodkin +1 more book written post-war concludes the series.

Also, I just found out that Sarah, Plain and Tall is the first in a series of 5 books. Did you know that?

Goodness- you ladies are coming up with some gems! I forgot about all the Sarah sequels, and I don't think I even knew about the Bantry Bay series.

what about the historical house series. set in a house in London and all that happens in that house.
One tital is historical house maryann and Miss Mozart. others are Pollys march.

We found them in our local library and as per dd, she borrowed the whole 7, so we could read them in order.
They are set in different periods of history.
It would be a favourite,

I have to add to the list:

The Ramona series by Beverly Cleary.

And- The Henry Huggins series by the same author.

I have to admit Henry is my favorite. I love the scene when he is trying to get his dog home on the bus and the way his parents help him with the paper drive. I love how he gets 5 different flashlights as gifts at his birthday party and is as happy as can be about it. Also- how he finally gets his paper route....
lots of fun stuff in those.
