Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just picked up Eleanor Estes' Ginger Pye from the library, but then I noticed a few websites that say this is a good read-aloud for older kids (SL recommends reading it aloud to kids in grades 3+).

Should I wait then? My kids are 8, 6, and 4. I've heard such wonderful things about this book, I don't want to read it to them until they can really enjoy it...

Your thoughts?

I read it to my dd at age 6 or 7. She loved it. I think there were a few things she needed explained, but that wasn't necessarily due to her age, but just things that were old fashioned and unfamiliar to her.

We read it this winter....ages: almost 9, 7.5, 6.5, 4. They all loved it....were sorry when it was over.

I would definitely wait. They will like it more when they are older. Over their heads now I think.

My son & I read it together when he was about nine. I had to help him, but he loved the book. I think reading it aloud you could go younger, but Sarah had a point that they may like it better older. You could start reading it and gage how they are doing. Stop & hold it for later if they seem not interested or you think it would be better to wait.
