Has any one read "The Misplaced Spy" by Elizabeth Altham? It is a Catholic detective story written for ages 9+. It has been advertised in Catholic periodicals.
I was wondering....it is worth purchasing? It is good literature? It is also available at Amazon.
Blessings,
Stephanie

From the Amazon review page: It was really fun. I thought the characterizations were great. I really enjoyed the story. --Laura Berquist, Author of Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum, Director, Mother of Divine Grace School
If my library or church library didn't have it, and my child really enjoyed that genre, I might order it, based on the above recommendation. Maybe for a birthday or summer reading gift. I tried looking for it at Borders/Barnes & Noble, and they don't have it...books like this I much prefer to hold in my hand and skim a few pages before buying, usually.
Maybe a local Catholic bookstore might have a copy to peruse?

I was wondering the same thing. I saw an advertisement that the unabridged audio CD with the print addition of the book was on special with free shipping for $24.95. I called the publisher and am going to give it a try. I'll let you know what I think after I receive it.
God bless,
Christine

Dear Christine,
I'd love to hear what you think. I saw Laura Berquist's recommendation. But I was wondering if any one on this list read it and what they thought. I have bought many books from small Catholic publishers. Some of them have been real gems, others...well, boring as toast and not at all well-written. Sometimes I keep them simply because they have good information in them, just not in the best digestable way But other times, I donate them, because I know I won't ever reread them.
I can't find this book interlibrary loan anywhere. So I will await your review, Christine! My daugher is looking forward to a lot of "easy, fun-reads this summer" as a break from her first year of high school , so I'm on the look out for some good ones that I may not already have.
Blessings,
Stephanie

Did anyone read this yet? If so, what did you think of it?

I did read it.
I hate to give a negative review, but in my opinion, it was just OK. I didn't really care for it, but kept reading to get through it so I could know if it was OK for my dd, since I had no other reviews of it. The writing was OK, but the kids used terms such as, "like hell" now and then, which isn't OK for my kids. The mystery was just OK, too- not an overly exciting, page turning type mystery. The resolution was short and left (in my opinion) a lot hanging unanswered.
Others may enjoy the book, but it's just not one of those beloved read over and over again types of books.
If anyone has specific questions or even wants to borrow my book, I'd be glad to help out.
Hope this helps some,
Christine
