Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

An interesting living book is Secret in the Sand by Mary Edmonston. It's about a girl who goes, unwilling, on a voyage from England to the Shetland Isles. The parents of the kids whom she visits are on an archeological expedition. So that the kids are amused when the parents are away, the parents set up a treasure hunt with great books as the childrens' guides. There are many riddles and brain-teasers for the children to figure out and one of my favorite things about this book is that the solutions are not all tidily figured out in one day. Besides this treasure hunt, the children are led on another, more serious mystery that concerns why they are not allowed on a certain island.

The book appears to be out of print. But it is well worth searching booksales to find it! From here you can go on a great books (Crusoe, Shakespeare's Macbeth, Great Expectations, Kidnapped, Treasure Island, Jungle Book, the Odyssey ... and several more are mentioned).

I misspelled the author's name. It's Edmondston.
