Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

During this Year of the Priest, I'd like to encourage my middle schooler to read a couple of biographies of priests. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

We'll be reading The Cure of Ars (Windeatt) and Forty Dreams of St. John Bosco. I'd like to add at least two more.

Here is the product of ten minutes hauling books out of our Altar cubbyhole

Books for reading to the younger children.

St. Joseph Picture book Padre Pio
Along the paths of the Saints St. Vincent de Paul, Saint John Bosco,Saint Anthony of Padua

Books for the older children
Windeatt books The Cure of Ars,Saint Francis Solano, St. Louis Montfort

Vision books The Cure of Arsby Lomask, Saint John Bosco,St. Anthony and the Christ Child,Vincent De Paul, Father Damien,St. Pius X, Father Marquette, Saint Isaac and the Indians

We'll do something special with the Cure of Ars and one other of the priests for which we have more then one book involving a group project. Otherwise I can easily have a priest biography as part of the read-alouds for the entire year.

I'm inclined to concentate on the Cure of Ars as patron of Priests, Saint John Bosco as patron of youth, St. Vincent de Paul servant of charity but the idea of letting my children free choice after the Cure of Ars has appeal as well....

Another book we love is "Magnificent Failure." It is about Father Solanus Casey. I looked for it, but it doesn't appear to be in print? It was printed by Pauline books, but they are not available now. Perhaps a used book seller? I bought our copy only a few years ago at the Father Solanus Casey Center in Detroit.

God Bless,

Not nec a "priest biography-only" , but my husband just finished No Greater Glory: The Four Immortal Chaplains and recommended it to our friend's 15 yo hs son.

It was originally recommended in this thread: Priest Books and MaryM posted on   this third page of the "Year for Priests Activities/Resources"....scroll down to where there is the postage stamp image. Really neat links about them and the sinking of the Dorchester.

Some of the books in this blog post would be good middle school reads:

Year of the Priest: Children's Book Titles
