Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone know anything about these? They are all the rage among the reading crowd around here...Quinn and his friends are racing through them and handing them off so they don't have to bring them back to the library...there are currently seven books with a final eighth one expected. Quinn reports they are very much like Percy Jackson except with fairy tale characters instead of mythological ones.
I haven't had time to pre-read so was just wondering if anyone else knew of these?

I bought the first one a little over a month ago after reading about it on this board. My kids got hooked, and so did I. I read them outloud to them every morning and they look forward to the story. I usually stop after 2 chapters, but they beg me to continue. We don't find them scary, but I read on the board that some kids might be too impressionable for these books. My kids are 7, 9 and 13.
I love the story line of these books, but I love even more the way they are written. The descriptions are so well done and colorful that I feel like I am watching a movie. I have to look back at one of the books becasue I want to use the descritione one of the caracters for dictation. I forgot what happened, but he was very dirty and the description was soooo good I could smell the filth!
I highly reccomend them.

Happy reading!

Simona

I've not read them, but I just looked them up - looks really interesting!

My first question though is why is Prince Charming a bad guy and the Big Bad Wolf a good guy? And several of the characters that I would think of as "good" are murder suspects?

I guess answering those questions here might be a spoiler - but it does seem backward....

The big bad wolf is repenting for all the sorrow he caused in his past and is trying to keep his ugly side away through meditation.
Prince Charming is really not mean in the end and I forgot exactly what happened to him, but it has to do with love.

I looked up some Christian book reviews and the books all seemed to be well-loved by many, including moms. So Simona, thank you for adding your input to that. I'm kinda breathing a big sigh of relief because he breezed through four of these in the two days I was in the hospital with the baby and I had no idea what they were....

I like that take on it! They really do look interesting... I'll have to see if our library has these.
