Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We did this as our last read-aloud with my 5, 8 and 9 yo kids. They all loved it! But we were big fans of the first one.

The story is about the aunt trying to get the widowed father to date again after 5 years and the girls try to stop it (thru less than honorable means). Great book for talking about sneakiness, lying and ultimate good ... the book tends toward a "end justifying the means" take on things but this gave me a great chance to explain that this isn't a good thing to do and discussin of how things could have been handled better.

I love the way the author writes -- her characters "sound" right, if you know what I mean!

Does that help a bit?

Yes, thank you that helps. Guess I will put it in our read aloud, together, pile. I was wondering as I paged through it whether I could set him loose or read it with him.
Thank you so much for the review....
