Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter has been requesting fantasy novels for her. She is at the level where she can read Narnia but LOTR would floor her (she is working at fluency still).

We have read Mac Donald's Princess books many times and Narnia heaps.

Her comment was, "I wish we hadn't read Narnia so often because I would love a series fantasy novels!" (I did mention that Mac Beth (I think it was you) had read the Narnia books each year for years!

Any suggestions out there...

Edgar Eager and E. Nesbit books both immediately come to mind as authors. I have enjoyed almost all of their books.

Depending on her tastes, she might like the Lloyd Alexander series, The Prydain Chronicles. Over Sea, Under Stone which is the first of the Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper might spark her interest. The other books in the series might be best for her when she is a bit older...as they get more suspenseful.

Has she tried Redwall? It is not fantasy, per se, but Brian Jacques has a ton of books to read that might keep her occupied for a good while!

That is all that immediately come to mind. If I think of any others, I will add them.

Peace.

Thank you for the reccomendations Laura. We have read some Nesbit and I think she would enjoy some of the others.

We have read the Redwall, Prydian, and some of the Dark is Rising books out loud and she wants some new ones. My, all that reading aloud thrown a bit of a curveball

Which of the other Alexander ones would you reccommend? We have just read the Prydian ones.

Thanks,

Kristie, check my Mid-Grade Fantasy page where there is an (always incomplete) list of books.
