Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How to you protect your books and book jackets? ...especially the soft covered books?
Does anyone use the plastic library covers on their books?
How effective are they?
...if they are hot stuff...is there a good source for them?

questions...questions...

God love you!

I use clear contact paper on ppbks when I am feeling energetic. I don't worry about paper dust jackets for hardbacks.

I have a bit of a reputation about book covering amongst my friends and family The other day I borrowed some books from a friend and they weren't covered, on the way home dd5 pipes from the back of the car, "Mum these books aren't covered!! You will have to cover them." Yes I have been known to cover my friends books for them.

But you have to say they last so much longer and they do feel nice. I will stop here as this is the part where dh starts rolling his eyes.

I buy my book plastic by the roll. Here in Australia I buy it from here (for my fellow Australians) Ring up your local library and ask them for the details of their supplier. That's what I did. It is far cheaper to buy it by the roll. I have the option of getting the roll cut in half or even thirds if I want. The first time I purchased I went in with some local hs friends and we took a roll each and shared freight. Oh and it is important to get the better quality sticky tape, the book covering stuff and it doesn't yellow.

I order book covers from Brodart. Usually (well, actually I've only placed 2 huge orders since we started homeschooling) I just go to their clearance section and order a bunch of stuff. Love the quality and durability -- I just haven't found the time to cover everything I want to cover, but most of our history books and picture books are done.

I've only done a few so far, but would like to get most of our books covered. Ds14 is very hard on books, and even the larger textbooks so often come as paperbacks now.
I'm also a bit obsessive about the dust jackets that come on kids' books - I hate seeing them get torn, etc. I usually take them off and save them until I can cover the dust jacket!
I've ordered from Demco for both the adhering-type plastic for soft covers, and the non-adhering type that just fits over the ends of the book and gets taped to itself. They'll send a big catalog if you ask.
