Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm beginning to post the pieces to a "unit study" (very informal) on Hans Christian Andersen at my blog. The first part of the Thumbelina post is up now and the second half will be up in a little while. I'll be adding other stories over the next week.

Colleen,
Wow! we are "insync".

A couple months ago I was reading a bio of HCA (by Rumer Godden) and bought a book of silhouettes that he did. Here it is:

The Amazing Paper-Cuts of Hans Christian Handersen

You could introduce a lesson on silhouettes and origami during your study.

I love silhouettes. I purposedly added Sister Wendy's In the Midst of Peace to the Catholic Mosaic list because of my fascination. I can't get enough of silhouettes. Had my three girls silhouettes done at DisneyWorld this past Feb.

P.S. I'll bring the paper-cut book with me when I come in August.

I love the scissored paper cuttings. I'm a HUGE fan of Sister Mary Jean Dorcy. I put some ideas in Blessed Mother Notebook Project[/url], but I'll repeat it here, since that thread is really long:

Using scherenschnitte or other forms of
paper cutting to make an image. I'll sound like a broken record, but I highly recommend anything by Sister Mary Jean Dorcy to see some beautiful illustrations of Mary with the scherenschnitte. In particularly, she has Our Lady's Feastswhich is just wonderful. Neumann Press has reprinted Our Lady of Springtime which is quite beautiful with lovely poetry and illustrations. Can I say beautiful any more?

Adrian Dominican Sisters shop

Catholic Authors

Dan Paulos, Sister was his mentor and they collaborated on a book, Spring Comes to the Hill Country (gorgeous). He also has some of her art for sale.

In the Midst of Chaos, Peace

She also has a book not using the paper cuttings, but it's called Shrines of Our Lady, which covers England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium...oh, the list is long!

Lovely ideas - I narrated "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" to our homeschool group learning juniors group, yesterday. Along with props. We talked about loyalty and friendship. So, your ideas are timed perfectly for me!

Thanks, Simona. I am having fun. Are you all tired of me yet? The Steadfast Tin Soldier is up today. I'll stop sending these messages each time, but the Little Mermaid, The Emperor's New Clothes, and the Ugly Duckling should be up over the weekend. I'm skipping the MAtch Girl, because that's covered in Catholic Mosaic, and I think we'll just read the Princess and the Pea, but not make a lapbook.
PS--Coming soon, Grimm's Fairy Tales and Aesop's Fables!

Hi, Colleen

Did you put up The Ugly Duckling and/or The Emperor's New Clothes? I didn't see them, and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking them.

Thanks for all your ideas!

Ami,
I was reading this right as Colleen phoned me. I read it to her and she got a chuckle out of it.

She's quite busy with the upcoming 4Real Mini-Conference here in Louisiana this weekend (oh, and butchering a cow too ).

Poor Hans is dateless for the time being but, being so dateless (pun intended) he'll be right where she left him when she returns.

In short, none of us have missed a thing. Stay tuned...

Yeah, sorry ladies, Hans got put on the back burner (okay, actually he's on the china cabinet )when planning for this weekend kicked into high gear and the reality that dh is leaving on a mission trip the same morning crept up on me. Add to that a broken dryer and needing to make arrangements with the slaughterhouse for our side of beef and you end up witha serious shortage in the creative energy department. Next week, though, I promise! Dh will be gone and I'll have to fill my late nights somehow!

No rush!

I was just going to pull things and start compiling them for HSS (since I had your permission) , and I didn't want to miss anything. Also, my son will love The Emperor's New Clothes, so I wanted to make sure to find that one.   Just post things whenever you are ready.

Sorry if I seem impatient. I'll be just fine!

Thanks Colleen!

I am checking out some Andersen books from the library. I hope to do your unit next year. I did want to flesh out a few of the final titles, but you don't need to worry about doing any more. What you've given is GREAT!
