Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello Chicken Lady,

The book is very gentle, describing the author's life growing up in rural England in the 1930s and 40s, and her life as a Carmelite nun. Interestingly, the family were Catholic but were rarely (if ever) able to attend Mass due to the distance to a Church and lack of transport, yet two out of the five children ended up in Carmel. I enjoy it ... it is one of those books I re-read occasionally if I want something gentle and undemanding.

I don't think it has ever been published in the US, so it may well be cheaper to buy it in the UK and pay shipping. It is available either from the publisher, Family Publications or from Amazon UK.

Oh, definitely way cheaper to buy from the UK! On Amazon UK you can get a good condition used copy for £3.50, with shipping at £6.98 - that makes it around $20 total. Family Publications sell it new for £6.75, but I couldn't find their shipping charges.

Molly,

Check what AmazonUK would charge or go direct to the publisher -- Family Pubs -- to see what it would cost; that's how I got copies of the Inos Biffi books.

Also, I checked our library, but they didn't have it; now I'm trying to get it ILL -- maybe in time for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel's feast (7/16) and also mom's birthday!

Well I got it and it is lovely. Cay I think you would like this book!
I seem to have a virus of some sort, I have been sick since the conference Saturday. I am laying low and reading this lovely, slow, gentle read. I so long to go to England. I told this to dh, he nearly spit out his coffee! Guess I am not booking a ticket any time soon.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, Molly. Do you think it started with that migraine on Saturday?

LOL I can imagine your dh's reaction. First Virgina, now England? What next?

I think it did Jenn! I think I was sick and you know how before you get ill you are out of sorts?   Just a silly head virus, but without my spleen I tend to get sicker than the average person. Off to have some more tea!
