Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm stressed and I need to unwind -- I need a good funny read.

A long time ago I read Nun in the Closet and it was so silly (and a little stupid).

My mind is going all over the place and I need a mental vaction from myself and a few good belly laughs before my family thinks I've lost my sense of humor completely. Anyone read anything funny lately?

I have been reading Right Ho Jeeves by P G Wodehouse - Wodehouse is a favourite author of mine, for when I want to relax and have a smile.

Red Sails to Capri is a 2nd grade Sonlight read-aloud, but I remember just laughing out loud while reading it to the kids!

Please Don't Drink the Holy Water by Susie Lloyd
My husband gave me this when it first came out. I think he may have felt that I needed to relax a bit. It's a wonderful book.
My Cup of Tea by Danielle Bean
A friend loaned me this and I found myself reading parts of it to my husband ~ they were funny and I could relate to what she was writing. I visit Danielle's blog when I need a little humor.

James Herriot's books are favorites of mine, especially the first two. Some really good, honest laughter. I'm smiling as I write this

Anything by Bill Bryson, but my favorites are A Walk in the Woods, In a Sunburned Country, and Notes from a Small Island. Hilarious!

Thanks for your replies.
Leonie, I always forget Wodehouse -- to be honest I never heard of him until I started reading these forums . I hate to admit it, but I'm just now listening to The Secret Garden on Cd for the first time with my sons. It's great. So onto Wodehouse!

Christine, we must have like minds because I already read those books (I got them at the end of my pregnancy - another stressful time).

Molly, Red Sails to Capri -- I had no idea that was funny -- I'll have to keep that in mind. I was talking to my sister about how most of the really funny stories we read were when we were little -- how there aren't a lot of funny adult books, especially fiction.

Suzanne, you and my husband must be in cahoots. He's been twisting my arm to read these -- but he likes them so much I'm afraid if I don't appreciate them as much as he does I'll hurt his feelings. Maybe I'll give them a try after all.

Theresa, I've never heard of Bryson before either [I'm dreadfully out of the book loop, which begs the question of where I am most of the time, but that's for another days pondering (now you understand the need for a funny book )] -- I looked him up at Amazon and he seems real interesting I'll be checking my library for him.

Thanks again!

I'm starting to calm down again and get things into perspective, but I'm really looking forward to reading some of thes books and authors

Our family enjoys Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. The "Thought you saiders cure" was by far the funniest.   Our little ones "Thought you said'ed" us for days after we finished reading (after a while it was tiresome, but it was worth the belly laughs from our small gentlemen).

They also thought the Parts books by Tedd Arnold were great. Giggly idioms.

I so enjoyed "Don't Drink the Holy Water" that I loaned it out and have yet to catch back up with the borrower.

Thank you for the good ideas. Our library borrow and paperback swap lists are growing!

Blessings,
