I recently read Purpose Driven Life, and I have a full review on my blog. I really loved the book, but the most blatant thing to me was how incomplete it seemed in parts because it is not Catholic. It really had a lot of good things for all Christians to meditate on.
I am curious to hear what others who have read the book think about it.

Dear Barbara,
I have found it a good book for discussion with my teens, using this Catholic companion alongside it.

Thanks so much Elizabeth for letting me know about this. I want to add that to my reading list.
I noted that one reviewer was disappointed that it was truly a companion book and not a Catholic replacement, but Warren explains so much so wonderfully I can totally understand not wanting to take any credit away from him.

Barbara-
I did a study of this book about five years ago with a friend through a group at her church. I scanned your review and I think you mentioned your dad (??) saying that he already knew his purpose. I had that feeling when going through the study. At the time I was pregnant with my second child and I just knew what my purpose was/is at that/this time. So, maybe it wasn't as helpful for me then as it might be when, say, I'm an empty nester and thinking "what next?"
I also have that feeling you mentioned when I read good books that are Christian but not Catholic. I always feel like; "yes! yes! if they only knew this other Catholic stuff they would be so much more fulfilled, enlightened, blessed, etc..." KWIM?

Hey, Dawn,
The book is somewhat misleading in its title; I think in an attempt to attract people that are attracted to self-help books. I think a lot people probably think it will help them discern their vocation, when it is truly about the goals that God has for us.
I think the book's value is more in how to live up to those goals. It's very much about not putting your faith on a shelf except for Sunday mornings and times of trouble, but letting God into every aspect of your life.
And there were some things that Warren wrote that I couldn't help but think about in a Catholic way. Like when he wrote about the importance of the church, I couldn't help but mentally capitalize it to be about The Church. I'm sure there are fundamentalists/evangelicals out there who would agree with Warren but be horrified at my interpretation of him.
