A friend of mine is in a Catholic Mom's Group associated with the parish school. They read 1 book a month and discuss it at one of their meetings. They are all very interested in learning more about Fatima, Lourdes or Guadalupe. Nothing really theological or academic. Good reads.
Any recommendations?
I think I remember The Wonder of Guadalupe being really good. ???

Suzanne, I haven't read The Wonder of Guadalupe but I did read
A Handbook on Guadalupe
The Handbook is a collection of short essays.
Well, now that I am rereading your post, I see they discuss a book once a month. So, maybe this isn't a good suggestion.
My personal favorite, forgive me for mentioning it so many times, but Fatima From the Beginning It is OOP but each time I search for it, I find many copies.
The Song of Bernadette by Franz Werfel is a very well written book. There was one scene I wish he didn't write about and I'm sorry he included. It is a good read though.

This is one of the first books I read in German. I picked it up recently and saw all the pencil marks with translations written in by me. The language and style are beautiful. I just was wondering which part of the book you were sorry about Helen???? It has been many years since I read it and dd1 would like to read it soon.

The Handbook of Guadalupe is excellent, that Helen has recommended.
Some others I can recommend are:
Mother of Good Counsel of Genezzano - this book is wonderful, it is an image of Our Lady that flew from Albania to Italy and it now miraculously remains suspended in the air (only one edge leans on a ledge) for the last 500 years - the first class miracles documented are inspiring and the history of the picture when it was in Albania is fabulous reading - some legend suggests it flew to Albania originally at the time the House of Loreto flew so it's original history may be in the Holy Land? (my thoughts) the Church it flew from in Albania could not be destoyed by the Muslims who overtook the land and the miracles attached with that are interesting reading - I highly recommend this book.
Miraculous Images of Our Lady by Joan Carroll Cruz I was just reading this book half and hour ago! This is inspiring reading of apparitions/shrines all over the world - the stories are simply beautiful reminding us of Mary's materal love for us. All Cruz's books are the best reading this is no exception.
Documents of Fatima & Memoirs of St Lucia This book is enormous with photos usually unseen and with many new, unknown and documented information on this important apparition - it is a Fr Fox book.
I love to read from these books to my children too (the first three mentioned) - this is a great thread to start, I look forward to discovering more nooks through it.

I just bought Visions of Our Lady yesterday. (side note - I got if for $1.00 at Goodwill and it looks as if it has never been opened).
The book is beautiful. It covers 12 times in history when Our Mother has appeared to her children. Each section starts with a picture, then a prayer, and then the story of that vision. I highly recommend it!

I read "A Woman Clothed with the Sun" many, many years ago, and found it quite helpful. It's a compilation of the more well-known apparitions, though it is an older book.

I looked through the book this morning and couldn't find the exact place ... If I remember correctly, at one point Bernadette's father is depicted in a bar not entirely sober( I don't even want to write this) using a blasphemy. No bad word was used just the phrase (something like) uttered a blasphemy.
Whether or not this is true is one thing. I don't think this information is germain to the story. So, at best it is a form of detraction.
This chapter soured the book for me and could be easily left out.
Another book is Warren Carroll's Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Conquest of Darkness
A good book, interesting read, but a little graphic in the description of human sacrifice. So, it may not be a good choice for a ladies' luncheon read.
But, it is short.

Yes, yes, yes! Cay, Marihalojen and I have mentioned about how much that book influenced us. Try and find it! I mentioned a little here.
Fatima in Lucia's Own Words is an excellent book. There are different versions, but it does look like it's out of print. Since she recently died there might be some new volume that has a collection of her writings.
I just thought I would throw in a recommendation for A Still Small Voice A Practical Guide on Reported Revelations by Benedict J. Groeschel. It's not overly theological, but great when people are starting out on the private revelation world.
I had some other thoughts, but I'm out of time!

Our Lady of Fatima by William Thomas Walsh is a classic and very good.

I have been meaning to ask Helen a question about this, and because all of you may benefit, I thought I'd post it here.
Helen, do you remember a book you lent to me years and years ago? It was written by a priest, and it was about Fatima. The opening story in the book tells about the priests own experience of meeting a family whose blind nine month old baby was cured through the intercession of Our Lady of Fatima. It was an incredibly powerful book, and I know you loved it as much as I did.
Would you be able to tell me the title of that one?

I'm pretty sure that is the John De Marchi book. I've really never read any other book on Fatima. I just keep re reading that one. (I did read Sr. Lucia's Calls from the Messge of Fatima. But that is more of a meditation.)

OK, I just realized that your link to Fatima from the Beginning above *is* the De Marchi book! The EWTN link must be a long article. I am going to order Fatima from the Beginning right now. Sorry to clog up the thread, but I am so excited to get a hold of this book! It has stayed with me for about a dozen years, so it is a powerful, powerful work!

Alice, I think your EWTN link is an earlier version of the book. The foreword of my 1986 edition of Fatima From the Beginning says it is a republished version of Fatima The Facts.
All very exciting!

For an absolutely wonderful book on Marian apparitions, check out Roy Abraham Varghese's God-Sent: A History of the Accredited Apparitions of Mary -- this is a wonderful, wonderful overview of all the apparitions -- including Our Lady of LaSalette, Guadalupe, Kazan, Zeitun, etc. Lots of ones that aren'et as well known outside their areas.
Fascinating reading so your friend's book club should enjoy reading it; it's not super long but might encourage more reading of specific apparitions.
Note: he does talk about Medjugorje which is still under consideration (or whatever they call it) to determine if it's a true one or not....
That aside, you might want to look for this beauty!
