Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am not sure if I should post this on the Living Faith forum (feel free to move it).

I just find out that our parish is going to start having eneagrams workshops in February. I don't know anything about the eneagram I just know that some people that I really respect don't like it.

Before we attended our current parish the priest there used to hold eneagram workshops and dream analysis workshops. This priest was a good man but NOT loyal to the Magisterium. He used to refer to God as Mother and talk about mother earth and stuff like that Thankfully when we joined the parish he was gone and a different very orthodox priest was the pastor. Now we have a new priest and I thought that he was very orthodox. Now that I heard this news about the eneagram I am not sure..

Do you know anything about the eneagram? should I be worried that such a thing is coming again to our parish? do you have any good resources to read up on it?

Thanks,

Natalia

Natalia,
I don't know anything about enneagrams, but your post got me curious. I just did a quick search on wikipedia and found this quote that may interest you,

"The Pontifical Council for Culture and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue of the Roman Catholic Church has also expressed concerns about the Enneagram when used in a religious context because it is claimed that it "introduces an ambiguity in the doctrine and the life of the Christian faith". [2]"

Here is the link. As I said, I am ignorant on this topic, but at first glance, it doesn't look like it is appropriate.

About the Enneagram and the Catholic Faith, I can sum in two words: Not Good. I'm surprised things like this keep cropping up. It was all the rage in the 90s, the New Age movement. You'd think it would die out.

Here are a few articles to read:

Thank you Jenn and Katherine for the links. I spent some time last night reading some of them. Like Jenn said Not Good. I actually found a book on my shelves on it and plan on reading it so that I can get ready for whatever comes our way.

Jenn, I was also surprised to see this pop up again. I thought new agy kind of thing were a thing of the past. Pray for our parish and for our priest.

Natalia

ETA: Sorry I misspelled Enneagram. I tried to edit the subject line and couldn't.

Unfortunately we have these sort of things in Australia too - often it is run by nuns      but then our diocese hit pages of the Wanderer in the States over nuns running an occultic woman-space organization, it is very sad indeeed.

As you have probably already read with the good links you have been given it is something to keep away from and inform others who may be wanting to go to it.

I heard about this topic in the 90's when I was very unclear about my faith. Interestingly, the couple who were into it at the time and "very experienced" were an ex-priest and an ex-nun couple . I stayed far away from it then and wouldn't go anywhere near it now. I really would have thought that this was a way dead topic.

Love,
