A friend of mine has just opened a Catholic book store and gift shop. She has asked me for help in selecting books to sell. What do you consider "must reads" for Catholics...including children's books. If possible, please include the publisher.
Thanks!

I made my annual trek to the Catholic book store in Vancouver this summer. These are some of the things I can home with that I LOVE:
Rosary Reflections by Ascencion Press
Everyday Graces by Karen Santorum
A CD of the Divine Mercy Prayers sung by Donna Cori Gibson--my children love this and look forward to singing the chaplet with her every day now)
Angel in the Waters by Regina Doman
You've got to carry all of the Vision books on the saints!
Two books that I just bought for All Saint's:
Saint Francis of Assisi: A Life of Joy by Robert F. Kennedy
Mother Teresa by Demi

Donna,
I enjoy everything I have read in the Sophia Press catalog.
Ds really really likes Squire and Scroll, Weight of the Mass, and Tomie dePaola books.
I don't know they publisher but hopefully will remember to look them up later!
How wonderful for your friend to have her own store!!

How about the Catholic Mosaic books? It's a nice comprehensive list! Not to mention Elizabeth's Advent studies lists

I've been thinking, and I wish I had been able to flip through Elizabeth's book long ago. It would have saved me so much money! It is the best homeschooling book and really the only one I return to over and over. Could she carry Real Learning by Elizabeth Foss?
I second The Weight of a Mass--lovely!

In addition to the books above, I'd include as many of the Bethlehem Books as I could!

Life Giving Love (K.Hahn), The Temperament God Gave You (Art & Larraine Bennett), Catholicism and Fundamentalism (Keating), any Scott Hahn book, Christ in Eclipse (Sheed - might be OOP), Lifeline: The Religious Upbringing of Your Children (Stenson), Holiness for Housewives (Hubert van Zeller), Full of Grace (Benkovic), Guiding Your Catholic Preschooler (Pierce/Rowland), anything by Thomas DuBay, anything by Mary Ann Budnik, The Apostolate of Holy Motherhood, Real Learning - those are just a few of my favorites off the top of my head! (I'm sure I could come up with many more, but I gotta run to Latin class!)

Ignatius Press, which publishes all of the Holy Father's books ....
(And they publish the fiction of one of my favorite writers, Michael O'Brien.)

All titles from Scepter Press are very good.
Newman Press has some lovely reprints of children's books.
Make sure Cooking with the Saints and A Continual Feast from Ignatius Press are included.
And A Book of Feasts and Seasons by Joanna Bogle (Morehouse Publishers)
A Catholic Home by Meredith Gould

My children really like these books too, although I am not a huge fan of the illistrations in some of Tomie dePaola's books, but it's just a matter of personal preference.
My kids also really like The Princess and the Kiss which is buy the same author as The Squire and the Scroll. They are not specifically Catholic though I haven't found anything questionable in them.
