My two girls (5.5 and 4.5) have been busy "playing Mass" all day. Cutting out circles of paper with crosses drawn on them, begging to use a crystal goblet but settling for plastic and hunting around for a "big red book with pretty gold on the front" (they settled for a copy of "Favorite Poems Old and New"-it' red and hard-covered!) They play so well and co-operated to get everything ready. And then the bickering starts: "I get to be Father Farrell" "No, I get to be Father Farrell, you can be Deacon-guy with the white hair who is funny" (this would be Deacon Tom who does have a good sense of humor!!)
But the whole thing was great to watch and participate in. After Daddy and I sat down for "Mass" "Father Farrell" said to us: "Ok, before Mass starts we will go into my closet and you can say confession" When I confessed to being grumpy at times with my children "Father Farrell" told me (in her biggest, deepest voice) "That is ok, Just smile and laugh and try harder"
The whole "Mass" experience was great. And now I know my kids are paying attention...
The girls now want some vestments sewn for them by their grandmother. My mother. The only seamstress in the family happens to be staunchly Methodist, bordering on anti-Catholic. This should be interesting when they call to ask her! Hope your Sunday is going well.

So have they made the call yet?!

My boys used to "play Mass" too. I miss those days! It was very sweet and so inspirational! Glad your girls are enjoying their faith.

Oh, I HAD to reply to this post. When I was around 11 or 12 my uncle and aunt's neighbors across the street were the Engel family (of Engel vs Board of Education to get prayer out of public schools). Very nice family, actually, and super nice kids. Anyway, around the time of the lawsuit, my aunt called my mom just laughing so hard. She didn't know if she should let the neighbors know, considering all that was going on, that their kids were in her basement playing Mass with her kids, kneeling, making the Sign of the Cross, and receiving (crackers)Communion. I often pray that they did finally someday come to faith in Christ. This "Mass-playing" happened more than once, as they played it once when I was there being a mothers' helper.
