Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A friend of a friend is leaving her protestant church over governance issues. The lady believes that both her current church and the Catholic Church's governance are un-biblical. Is there an apologetics book out there that deals with this and could help this lady?

Janette,

It's an authority issue and there are plenty of references in Scripture to point to.

She needs to understand what true authority is according to Scripture and what Jesus Himself established. My guess is that she doesn't. My question would be what does she consider to be a Biblical form of governing?

I can send you some links and more on this later if you want but I am running out the door right now.

Hi Again.

I was thinking you might want to check out the book By What Authority: An Evangelical Discovers Catholic Tradition.

Like I said earlier it's an authority issue and until she can recognize that she will likely not be satisfied with any church. This is a key reason why so many Protestants hop from church to church and some eventually start their own.

Hope this helps.

God bless!

Good question.

I'd never really thought about authority issues. I've always been Catholic and it has never even crossed my mind to doubt the Church's authority. I can see how some Protestants could have problems, though.
