Hi, I would like to introduce my 21 month old to the Rosary. I was wondering if anyone knows of a board book that has the mysteries in it. Also, she loves to handle our Rosaries, but she is always accidentally breaking them. I would like to make Rosaries for us out of rope with just knots and no beads. Does anyone know of a link that has instructions for this type of Rosary. Thank you for any direction.

I don't have a link, but I was in the Catholic bookstore the other day and saw chunky children's rosaries made of colorful wood beads and a thick cord (not as prickly as twine, but tough like it). It was so hard to not buy one, they were great, but I no longer have baby hands

Normally, I have a mind like a sieve  , but I was fortunate to remember hearing about this site on EWTN radio one day.
Instructions for making a twine rosary (I'm sure you could use Marcrame rope (?) if you wanted):

I have found that plastic bead rosaries strung on cord work well with our little ones. Baby to about age 6 use theses and then they switch to the ones with the metal links. I may have instuctions to make a rosary without beads on our desk top computer (I will check and post them in the morning if I do). However, my guess is that your child will prefer a plastic bead rosary because it looks more like Mommy's rosary.

There is one in the CHC website made for kids. My girls have broken so many rosaries, they are only allowed to have the plastic ones now.

We've always had the chunky wooden ones for our little people and they last well. You can one in the first picture in this post. It's hanging from the pegs of the Mary shelf. There are also some macrame ones hanging there.

Our Lady's Rosary Makers is one of the largest suppliers of Rosary parts for mission Rosaries (i.e. string and plastic beads). They have the directions on-line underAsk for Free Publications.
You might want to see if a local church in your area has a Rosary Guild. These ladies are always happy to teach people how to make the Mission Rosaries and they would have all the supplies right there. I will say that the Rosaries aren't too hard to make with a little practice, but I think that the learning process would be easier with someone to show you in person!

I could not find the instructions for the rosary without beads.
I second Betsy's recommendation of Our Lady's Rosary Makers. My children and I get supplies from them and make rosaries for the missions. Our Little Flowers Girls' Club made some at one of our meetings. They are really easy to make, save for the knots. These are reserved for me to do.

Thanks for the responses. I plan on making a Rosary for each of us following the directions that Cici posted. I am excited to get started. I am still hoping to find a board book that has the mysteries. I have searched alot on the web and have come up empty. Is it possible that it doesn't exist? I would be surprised. I would think that it would be a fairly good seller.

We were given this book recently. Might be a little too much for an under 2 but it is fairly sturdy.

I'm a 'newbie' here so I don't know if you've yet found a book, but here's what we do: I have taken the 4x6 pictures of the mysteries that CHC sells and put them into one of those mini photo albums. This makes a pretty sturdy little book with pages that little ones can turn easily. I just used the pictures, but for an older child you could write the names of the mysteries on the adjacent pages. (I have done the same thing with their Stations pictures in another album.)
For little ones' rosaries, we make them out of plastic pony beads strung on cording, and adding an inexpensive metal crucifix from the Catholic shop. Just tie knots between the deacades. We like to use 10 different colored beads, as that makes it easier to keep track of what bead you are on. Heart beads make cute Paters for girls. It is also easier for littles to use a rosary where the beads can slide a bit, so they can push aside the ones they are done with. Use a bit of glue on the knots, or melt them a bit if it is a nylon cord, so they can't come undone. We also have some Rosary Army style cord rosaries, but I really prefer the feel of actual beads.
