Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How, exactly, do we make a liturigal notebook?

We are a very structured home in the schooling dept., but I am planning on using FIAR, CM, and other sources to have a very in-depth and relaxed enjoyment of the major feast days this year.

We're going to make the Sacred Heart of Jesus statues in Seton's Art 3 and the baptism shell in Art 1 for the Birth of St. John the Baptist. My plan was to place these creations on a home alter table, but then again that's a mighty big alter table in no time for our family size! Plus, then what to do with everything at the end of the year?

Anyhoo.. HELP! WWYD?

DUH! lit. notebook information on p.16 & 17 in CM!

Still WWYD with the larger items like statues and such? Esp. as it's multiplied in our house by at least 3 or 5?

Martha,
Real quick cause I have to leave in a few minutes but I didn't want to leave you hanging any longer.

Do you mean the statues you use all year? Do you mean the craft activities the children make that you have to weed through eventually (I mean, we can't possibly keep everything!) Can we?

Some of the moms last year told me the mosaic crosses we did in class were the only craft that found a permanent spot in the home. (The frames in the picture were done in Little Flowers). We didn't do the notebook with the whole group (it would have been too much), just at home with my children. So I certainly understand the dilemma.

A couple of options that we do around here.

(1) Take pictures and glue photo in Liturgical Notebook for memories sake.

(2) The crafts usually go on the
altar that is permanently set-up. We also have a display table (known as our storybook table) where we display the books we're reading and any crafts. I leave those on display for the month then take everything down.

(3) Booklets and crafts that can be pressed down to go inside the Liturgical Year notebook. They are flattened and put in the divider pockets.

(4) Items that cannot be saved in the notebook or placed permananetly throughout the house are (after the picture is taken) given to the children to be placed in their room.

I'm not sure I'm answering your question. Let me know if it's still lacking info.

I do have a bookshelf behind my bedroom door where I keep all our Good Shepherd materials, Mosaic books, etc. The children have access to this shelf and they can go in my room and close the door for quiet time if they desire. Anything, such as statues, that is reusable each year is placed on this shelf.

On the subject of larger, more permanent Liturgical Year crafts that overflowing your home, I had a thought. The Catholics in a nursing home, or homebound in the parish might really enjoy these to display in their home. The visit would fit in nicely in practicing the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and the children might like having someone else view and enjoy their handicraft -- being put to good use instead of being in a cupboard.

Just a thought. One of the hardest things for me is going out and sharing our spiritual gifts. I'm such a homebody, but I want our son to learn to practice charity and live the Gospel publicly.

Excellent, Jenn!

I had forgotten that when our Mosaic class did the Mary's Garden craft, one family had their grandfather in the hospital. They went to visit him after class and one of the girls insisted on leaving her garden with Grandpa to brighten his hospital room. Sweet!

These are the type crafts that I suggest taking a snapshot of and putting it on scrapbook paper, logging it and filing in notebook.

Oh! Nursing homes or maybe even the catholic hosptials is a great idea! We also have convents that might like them... Thanks for the ideas !

We've started our notebooks! Worked on the covers today. We're all excited about filling the pages inside. Take a look.

Donna,
The cover looks so great!
My children and I might have to start a new notebook .    Your new covers look so fresh and bright. Love 'em.

Bumping this up... I thought we'd talked about this again more recently, but I can't find the thread/topic...

I am planning to (finally) start one of my own so that the many things I love, like the Days of the Blackbird and the copyworK that MaryM posted for St. Francis de Sales, don't get lost from year to year and scrambled for at the last minute.

Anyone have pictures of what they've done? Want to share?
