Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK - so faith and life and similar texts worked fine for my other kids. But ds age 12 - we need something more real learning. The text books are to - "text booky" for him.

So, I may read: A Philadelphia Catholic in King James Court. And am trying Encounter by Mark Hart.

Any better ideas?

We are having the best year with The Bible Tells Me So: A Year of Catechizing Directly from Scripture. We're taking it slow - over two years - because even my youngest kids are listening in.

I love the conversational tone, we are all learning so much from scripture, about mass, and about the Catholic church. Today I asked my kids, "Who said, 'Here I am, Lord,'" and my 5YO blurted out, "Samuel!" That was something we read several weeks ago. I am amazed how much they are retaining.

It isn't perfect, but it is excellent. I do wish that it was set up a bit differently, and included color pictures of religious art, etc., but it is still a great resource. In the past we've used several different programs, but I haven't experienced anything that we can study together and enjoy together like this book!

St. Patrick's Summer is a story-form catechism he may like.

My oldest is 10, but he really enjoys it.

I second The Bible Tells Me So
It has been great for us this year.

We usually finish a chapter in 2-3 days and only do one chapter a week, so we have also read "King David and His Psalms". and now we are going to read a book about angels to fill in those extra days...

Ds (12) is reading independently "Dear God, I Don't Get It", which features a 12 yo boy and has a sequel
