Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm planning on having my 10 yo boy read through the Old Testament independently this upcoming school year and wanted some suggestion on what to use. We have The New Catholic Picture Bible on hand, but I have read that to him in previous years. I also have The Children's Bible by Golden and we have never used it. I'm fine with using that, but I wanted to see if anyone had something better to suggest.

My oldest has been reading Hurlburt's Story of the Bible for the past couple of years. It is not Catholic, but it retells the narrative of the Old Testament so thoroughly and delightfully.I think he enjoys reading it.

My 10 year old son has been reading the actual Bible for a few years. We use the Ignatius Bible RSV-CE 2nd edition.

Even the Old Testament, Jenn? I find the histories are so much easier to get through and understand the lineages and such when summarized. It just presents a clearer big picture and helps identify the key players. I do use other sources for the New Testament and plan for ds to use his Bible (the version you have recommendedhere and in the past) more for New Testament readings this year as well as the Mater Amabilis recommendation Pearls of Peace.

But even the Hurlburt version would be hard to get through in a year unless read daily as a major focus in school work.

My ten year old dd will be reading from the Bible for Young Catholics over the next year.

It introduces every book in the bible giving paraphrases of the historical books and at least a small taste of the other books. It also has a useful chart giving the historical periods, persons, events, rough dates and the corresponding books of the Bible plus parent/teacher helps (which include suggested readings from the Family Bible - ones which tie the Old and New Testament together).

She will also be receiving an Ignatius Bible but I think it will help for her to have read the paraphrase first so that she knows the 'plot' so to speak.
