Who are your favorite obscure Saints?????
My new favorite, somewhat obscure Saint, is St. Dymphna! I have really enjoyed learning about her and praying to her. So, how are your obscure favorite Saints?????

St. Francis of Paola!
My son chose him as his confirmation saint this spring - dressed as him for the All Saints Party last fall (won a prize!). Until that time we hadn't really heard of him. My son read about him in a miracles book. He is nicknamed "God's miracle worker supreme" - lots are really amazing miracles and supernatural experiences associated with him.
Here he is sailing on his cloak!
..and levitating!

Oh I was going to say St. Dymphna too. My girls found a picture of her in a book and thought she was pretty when looking for Saints' Day costumes. So we've read more about her and have had a girl dress up as her several times.
Oh! of course.. my oldest's Confirmation Saint. St. Lucy Filippini: Foundress of the Maestre Pie Filippini. My oldest felt that the virtues St. Lucy Filippini was known for were ones that she could use an advocate to improve.

St. Ivo of Kermatin. I visited his shrine in Brittany (France) about 20 years ago and never forgot that he helps the poor. So when we are in financial need, I pray to him. In French he is St. Yves.

St. Frances of Rome.
I don't how very obscure she is here in the States, but I loved her story so much that I named my 5th daughter after her. I keep telling myself that I try to remember one of her statements: A married woman must leave God at the altar to find Him in her domestic cares.
That is tough for me sometimes.

I was looking up saint names not long ago, as a few of mine don't have a saint name in their name, and one of our boys is named Vigo. I found then Saint Vigor! Like as in vigorous. That is ALWAYS how we referred to our son when in the womb!

St. Polycarp, patron saint of ear pain. I had really bad shingles a few years ago and have permanent nerve damage in one of my ears. I ask for intercessions for the healing of my ear pain every day. On his feast day I go to Mass and get my ear blessed by the priest.

It has been fascinating learning of all these obscure Saints. 
I would love to hear of more!!!!!
I actually have a funny story about obscure Saints, or at least though to be obscure. A friend of mind was told by a Priest to find an obscure Saint to pray to so they wouldn't be so busy, like St. Therese or St. Michael! 
So, for her husband she chose to pray to St. Martin De Porres because she had never heard of him and though he was obscure. She was crushed to later find out he is a very, very popular Saint.

St. Vitus is the patron saint of dancers, so he is very popular at my house.
Interestingly, our very first duty station was at San Vito dei Normanni (St. Vitus of the Normans, because the area was conquered by the Normans). Little did I know that I would need San Vito's intercession in future years!

I know St. Isidore is on the American calendar, but he's not a very popular saint.
One saint that I have loved is St. Nicholas Owen, a Jesuit lay brother, who built numerous priest holes during persecution under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England.

My son's name is Owen, and I had to decide on either St. Owen (very unknown saint) or St. Nicholas Owen (much more well known, with a fascinating history), and needless to say, I chose the latter for his patron. Also, I was in a very Henry VIII-era history phase when our little man was conceived, so St. Nicholas Owen fits the bill:) I mean, really, priest holes?! Awesome.

Bl. Peter To Rot. He lived in Papua New Guinea during WWII, and was martyred by the Japanese. He wasn't clergy, but a husband, father, and catechist. My grandparents grew up in Indonesia and my grandmother spent several years in a prisoner camp during WWII. When I first read about Bl. Peter, his story sounded so very familiar, I thought "you're my people!" I'd love to name a son Peter - it's a favorite name of both my husband and I - but it totally doesn't work with our last name.

Well today I learned a new patron for expectant mothers. I always heard St. Gerard, but St. Raymond Nonnatus is also one. Obscure to me.

Interesting, Jenn. Growing up, I saw my mom praying novenas to St. Raymond Nonnatus with each pregnancy, and I only heard about St. Gerard when I came to the US.

For personal reasons, she is one of my favorite saints. I ask her to keep my love for the Lord in the Eucharist alive, and she has never let me down.
