Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I think I'm taking the plunge and teaching the Ward method (Gregorian Chant) and have a schola/choir for our local homeschool children.

I've got ideas, but if anyone has ever done this, I'd love to hear your experience!

No ideas, no experience--but I wish my kids could join! :)

How wonderful Jenn! When our middle and high school schola rehearses, it crucial for another mom to be the crowd control person to help keep kids focused. (Even big kids. )

I wish my girls could join too!

I don't have personal experience, but I will make one suggestion:

ROBES

I think this is awesome, Jenn.

I would be happy to put you in touch with our choir director. She leads our adult choir but also Choristers which is for kids. She is amazing!! I did not think singing would be a part of our life, but it is because of her. She has run a Chant Camp for two summers as well and 70+ youth sing a High Mass on the last day - tear-inducing. I think she would have great advice for you.

If you are interested, I will ask her if I can pass along her email or phone number.

If you can do so, I recommend attending the Sacred Music Colloquim. My children's choir director does so each year (some choir members will be joining her this year). She returns refreshed and with plenty of energy to start the new choir year.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the encouragement. I am very nervous about doing this. For now I'll keep the ages young (since my boys are young) and start small with only a few goals.

Erin, great link. I use/have most of those items!

Christine, I have gone to the Colloquium in years past when it was closer to my home (in DC) and then I could commute. If it comes back to Pittsburgh or DC or East Coast then it will be more doable. I still need to take Ward 2 and 3, but I'm finishing CGS Level III this summer. There are too many things I love!

Stephanie, love it! The robes question has been on my mind. I even purchased some old vintage choir robes patterns yesterday with the idea that we might be using them.
